Sad indeed. This will also have a flow on effect, and cause some of the parts suppliers to loose heaps of business and probably close down, with those parts suppliers closed, what will happen to Holden?

This has probably been one of the industries worse kept secrets.

Its very ironic that the Australian dollar is now dropping below parity, and looks likely to continue to drop with the losses the mining industry are now beginning to post.

The high Australian dollar is the excuse Ford USA used to limit investment in export opportunities for the Falcon and Territory, and now Ford may have shot itself in the foot.
Ford is pinning its hopes on Euro and eventually American imports, but with a weak dollar, and plenty of competition from its ex partner in development (Mazda), Ford Australia's market share is going to rapidly decline much the same way Nissan declined when it pulled out of local manufacturing.

Such a damm shame that such a bloody good car is going to be shelved, because the Ford America is more concerned about their local market, and not International markets.

I am predicting with the release of the VF in the next couple of weeks, the level of equipment in the VF, and the MASSIVE price drops (Up to $10,000 for CalaisV and SSV Redline models), Holden's market share will hold steady for the next couple of years.
The export of the Chevy SS to the states, along with continuing export of the PPV Caprice, and the USD making large gains against the AUD, I think Holden's huge export risk is going to pay off big time !

It is a shame, but as you said, Ford USA shot itself in the foot...in saying that I don't think they really cared much for Ford Australia. By killing off Ford Australia, Ford USA keeps some manufacturing in the states while exporting everything out, win win for them.

And hey - Someone could employ a few hundred of these guys to start converting half decent Ford imports to right hand drive.

Maybe someone with some money should just buy the whole lot and take the Ford name off everything and do something cool with it.

Like consumer driven car design.

Wow.

I'm sure Ford US will cash in on the conversion part of it off the factory line if they start exporting here...after all, highly unlikely they will honour warranties where they aren't the ones doing the work!

Its just as much the Governments fault as FORDS. There has been NO protection for Australian Manufacturing against the cheap imports for years. Now Australian manufacturing is almost at its breaking point and manufacturing is shutting up shop left right and centre. The Dollar is starting to slide so guess what? Imported goods start going up in price! Where's their competition? Out of business. If Australia isnt careful we end up being a country who has retail as its number 1 form of employment. No manufacturing, no Farming, and little resources of our own left after selling the off to overseas.

On the ford front if you look at the US site and their vehicles, take a look at the explorer and tell me that it doesnt look like our Territory. I wouldnt be surprised if that was our replacement for the Territory in 2016. The bigger worry is are they really going keep the build quality up to scratch now as the tooling wears and theres no reason to renew it?

On the other hand, sales might increase as people try to invest in the LAST AUSSI FALCON to lock away for 20 or 30 years when it will hopefully be a collectable.

:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

if they think for one second that we will buy there Fwd crap & keep them in business for years to come they are sorely mistaken! the American don't even want their Fwd s**t over there (Ford Fusion), whats makes them think that we would want it after 50 years of proper rwd!

i don't think it will take that long for this last gen to become a classic lol hell look at the current price of a used FG XR6T - sometimes it's hard to spot the difference between a new price and Used price
