This is something I have heard from a friend, if anyone can give proven info it would be great.

V8 supercars use a control tyre that is identical for both makes.

Is tyre roll out different if a tyre is compressed more?

My friend says that ave$co has allowed the crummies to have upto 8% leway on pit lane speed limiting because the falcon is heavier thus flattens the contact more hence more roll out.

I feel this is hog wash as the perimeter is still the same unless it streches or is pushed in to a point where it folds and overlaps.

For eg if you get a rope that was say 1m long and you made a circle from it it still will have a 1m length.
If you flatten it in one area it is still the same length.

So what is this crap of different roll out's if ave$co are inforcing this rule.

If you inflate a tyre to a point where it balloon's if will increase diameter as it will strech, but it would be of no advantage as it would give less contact and would not absorb track irregularities as good.

And 8% works out to 3.2kph more for the crummies.

The Fords (Ambrose and Lowndes) don't even need to exceed this 40kph limit to get penalised (Oran Park) .

The crummies can do 43.2kph and don't get penalised .

But theyre using low profile tyres I wouldn't of thought that there was enough tyre there to be able to make much of a difference.

Taken from HRT.com and SBR.com
Holden: Vehicle Weight: 1350kg (category minimum)
Falcon: Vehicle Weight: 1350kg (category minimum)
So at least that part is a load of baloney. mmm baloney. I'm off to make me a sandwich..

the only thing different in v8 super cars is the shell, apart from that they have very strict rules in terms of weight, suspension design etc.
so this is just a rumour someone made up.

Just another point i had, if weight differences were real, and this roll out did cause the tyres to flatten out, then they would be running slightly higher pressures to counteract that

yeah holden and ford in the v8s are the same. f**k all difference between them.
remember that there pit speed is 40km/h. even if there rolling diamiter was different, there speed limiters would be calabrated to the 40km/h so it wouldnt make any diffrence. but all cars weigh nearly the same in the v8s anyway

tyres CAN "grow" so to speak
only with high wheel rpm and soft pressures

look at a the funny cars rear tyres when they do a burnout the expand something cruel! :)
the tyre moves in from teh sidewalls and expands outwards increasing the overall diamter

ie goses from O to ()

Also, you need to remember that CAMS use laser guns to check the speeds, tyre roll-out/growth isnt going to effect the reading on the laser gun.
