Fuel economy and 300 ponies dont go together. :D

All depends on the heavy metal in your foot. :D

Anyone seen the old escort with the plates IM BOSS from a few years back. Its got the set up you want and that was a very well sorted car, even for 10-12 years ago when turbo technology was in its infancy compared to today.

I would be buying a Zetec engine and turboing that !! Rebuilding engine first though..Or a V6 from Explorer with a turbo hanging off the side..Cossie stuff is SOoo expensive!!

if you can find a cosworth twin cam go for it. 300hp is a sneeze for one of those

but it'l cost lots for the engine

YES correct !!!
I'm thinking of another Ford engine???
The V6 Mustang in std form is nothing write home about either BUT as we have seen one of these in a Focus with twin turbo run 7.1 1/4's...At Eastern Creek...
A VG30tt engine would nice also..A front cut would get you all the brakes wireing and ecu...

That would be another eeeeek from me, those things are huge, they make a Chev engine look tiny, they are bigger than most big blocks width wise, the only thing I would use from a 300ZX TT front cut would be those awesome brake callipers they come standard with.

They have been made to perform (big time) but have a look at their standard track record, VG30TT requires to many expensive parts like rods and pistons if you are going to push them any more than the stock turbos can go, this is not one of Nissan's better engines to mod, if you were going to go that far, you would be better off starting with any of the RB series turbo engines i.e. RB20, RB25, RB26(GTR).

The Zetec sounds an awesome idea, apparently these are awesome engines for performance and reliability, plus the fact it is different. But other than servicing Mondeo's (which were to heavy for the 2.0L they used), I haven't had anything to do with the Zetec 4 cylinder.

The only reason I commented eeeek on the Exploder V6 was because they have mechanical problems standard without adding a turbo etc, some of them didn't even make it to the customer before something went wrong, is the Mustang V6 the same V6?, I know the Tearàrse V6 wasn't the same V6 and in standard form I have never seen a problem with them.

Na its crappy pushrod like V8 Windsor with back two cylinders chopped off... Well the 2002 model I hired was...Not the best bit of engineering...
I'd put my money into a VG30tt with internal mods before I'd use the Zetec..They have high comp so internals would need changing also...Depends what you want it for?? Quick street with the odd night at the drags..In a Capri I'd use a bigger engine ?? Thought of some of the small truck type engines ?? Like [Don't laugh] Rodeo 3.2/ 3.5 V6 or any of the Toyota, Nissan, Mitsi range..They are generally stronger and have lower compression, the longer inlet manifold on them could changed over to the sedan version if they fit, but realy adding a couple of turbo's to a 24 valve twin cam V6 is going to make some serious power, reliability would be o/k if rpm was same as std rev limit!..I have seen a Rodeo 3.5 V6 with Powerdyn blower make impressive power at Croyden Motorsport around 250 rwkw on low boost...With this type engine the G/box is sorted for rear wheel drive also...Mazda V6's rods are not up to any boost on there engines...I have pics to prove that!!!
Another is the Toyota V8 or the Nissan V8 too for that matter ???Jap turbo V8 and a well sorted auto would be quick also...
Naturally with any engine unless they have low comp std, there would need to be some lower comp pistons added and general freshen up...
Btw the SR20 is an alloy block I doubt it would much heavier ???
The FJ 20 was cast iron....

Yeah the only reason i dont wanna go any ute engines and the sort is that a few mates have utes and they just s**t house and I want jus a cruiser which goes pretty well thats why im only aimin for 300 odd horsies at the bags......I was actually thinking of a set-up like

* Forged pistons to lower comp to approx 9.8:1 ish
* A Ford Racing head which has been high flowed using abbrasive materials
* Quad throttle bodies
* Stand alone ecu
* as big cams as i can get as long as i dont stall on busy streets
* custom headers
* Supra gear box or something with getrag
* Lsd rear
* oversized Valves
* Small(ish) T-03/4r Hybrid Turbo

And others but i cant think of them right now
If anyone knows how much approx id be paying for all this please do tell

* Forged pistons to lower comp to approx 9.8:1 ish[$1500 ] * A Ford Racing head which has been high flowed using abbrasive materials
[To do an inlet manifold is $900]

* Quad throttle bodies {Get them off a 20 valve 4AGE]
{But realy NOT nessessary with turbo engine, shorten runners and make bigger plenum]

* Stand alone ecu [Wolf, EMS,Haltec etc $2500 fitted]
* as big cams as i can get as long as i dont stall on busy streets
* custom headers [Leave as they are big cams and turbo on street DON'T mix]
* Supra gear box or something with getrag
* Lsd rear [See Mall Wood]

Do that to any V6 engine I said above and I promise you she'll make any power you want!!!Any engine unless originally turbo'd is going to need better rods and pistons OR atleast lower compression...Zetec included..
The reason these engine are slow in n/a form is because thats the way they are designed [For LOW end rpm/ torque]!!! Put a blower / turbo on them and they turn into decent engines..Besides a 3 litr hauling along 1600 -1700 kg is alittle much to ask !!...The utes are not the best handling machines either which takes away any performance ...
I have been for a drive in a Gemini with a 3.5 Rodeo V6,now if it was turbo'd ???
I guess a 4 Ltr would be too long and front heavy?
* oversized Valves [If its 4 valve don't worry]
* Small(ish) T-03/4r Hybrid Turbo[$600 to $1200]

And others but i cant think of them right now
If anyone knows how much approx id be paying for all this please do tell

Who said to lower comp to 9.8 to 1 HELL even the R.B26 is under 8.5!!!!
More like 8 to 1 and let the turbo make power..The more you can stuff in there with big chambers the bigger the bang = more exhaust flow = more power....Unless you want to run under 7 Lb to be reliable !!!
