Sounds like fun times until you're no name chinese sweatshop built secondary fuel pump doesnt turn on.

I'm still a firm beleiver in ebay turbo's being crap.

Maybe ask him to seperate a manifold and wastegate then use a proper turbo and fuel/ignition setup.

I tried to build my turbo kit under $1500 and did most of the exhaust dump pipe, manifold etc my self and just scraped in under $2000 but was with cheap ebay turbos and waste gate it didnt last long, now my new turbo build has cost me close to $3000 in just parts (manifold and dump pipe I have made my self) and still $3000 to go with ECU and tuning, But as a starting point you could try them then replace what breaks or pay for quality stuff first off up to the person I guess?

they sound pretty legit but it is still a very very bad setup..
s**t turbo, no intercooler, s**t fuel pump. s**t exhaust manifold.
i wouldn't go over 5-6psi...

wouldn't be bad to throw on a bush basher, or a weekender ex taxi. but theres no chance in hell id use it on my beast

Pretty sure that's what it's intended for, pick up a EF beater for $500 and bolt this on for a weekend of fun, between a few mates it wouldn't cost much at all

Spend the extra $500 and get a Snort setup. I wouldnt bother with all those crappy chong made parts.

don't skimp on turbos... plenty of 2nd hand garretts around for around $500.

i wouldn't go without a form of intercooling either.. it'll work, but given a hot day it'll drive like crap and be prone to detenation.

Some of the hardware looks a bit dodgy, but some of it looks like it might hold up. It's not all that much cheaper than a snort kit at the end of the day.

I reckon the guy on there in Melb with the manifold, turbo, wastegate & heat shield for $1000 is a much better buy. Let you use a better fuel pump, say a J3 chip, bigger injectors & a tune, with some pipe work & a ebay cooler you might get it done for around $2500.

Some of the Ebay turbo's are rubbish, but there are some that have reports that they hold up rather well. I guess it's cavet empor?

Cheers

Good for the price. Building an enclosed intake system though would go a long way if your planning on not using an intercooler. I think Snort a developing a similar style kit to this with a liquid cooled plenum.

Ahh ebay Turbos, some are good, some are bad and some are just plain horrible. In saying that though, there is an ED XR8 that ran low 10s with a pair of ebay Turbos on low boost. The main issue with these chinese turbos is that they are not balanced properly and running highish boost pressure will destroy them quick. I wouldnt run them on anymore than 8psi. I know a few who have had great success with certain knock off turbos on moderate boost levels.

What amazes me though is that why people still buy them when you can buy Masterpower Turbos for around $900. They are an awesome Turbo for the price and the Turbo V8 brigade in the states swear by them.

Nothing wrong with Chong parts. Its been proven that the latest generation of Chong tig welders are s**t all over anything from Miller.
And as for turbo's. It might be a bit hit and miss but the ones who complain about dead turbo's usually don't take any special precausions on the first start up.
Of course a Chong turbo is going to s**t itself if it is starved of oil. Hell even a big dollar garret will too.

I done really plan on running high boost, im not using it as a drag car it will be a every day driver, i just love the feel of a turbo and although i love the L6 i have had v6's all my life and feel that the L6 is a little lazy and has alot more to give.

I would more like a intercooled setup, that setup with the pod filter on the end in the middle of the engine bay seems a little stupid to me.

If you daily the car and run low boost a chinese ebay turbo will be fine.

Ford uses ebay turbo's on all the XR6 turbos for this reason. Oh wait.

lol

He isnt building the turbo. He is getting from somewhere else.

For the kit to sell at $2500 for all new parts there is a fair chance it is going to be full of cheap gear so he turns a profit.
