I am in the process of heavily modifying my xr6t and have been informed numerous times to upgrade the internal wastegate inside the turbo. What i was wondering, is there a way to get rid of the internal wastegate and fabricate an external wastegate setup plumbed back ( not vented to atmosphere).
Cheers
Blair

Yep !!! You can either weld it up or buy a turbine housing OR better still ?? Sell yours and fit a T04Z
You'll need to get exhaust manifold made up to support an external gate.....With dump pipe fabbed up to accept w/g exhaust.....

you can have the std manifold modded to suit and ext housings are available so are larger turbo's that use the same flange!

oh yeah , well my mate was suggesting welding the internal and yeah pretty much what you said, just doing the manifold for the external. Any size suggestions for wastegate size?

also another suggestion was to have a screamer pipe off the wastegate with a flange. then fabricate a 90 degree bend with flanges, and flange on exhaust with flat bar stopped. So then if i was to be pulled up and slapped with a yellow sticker i could easily just bolt the 90 on and its plumbed back.??

such as the std is a 650hp capacity as std

comp cover and ext gate ex/housing bring it to 700 hp

different turbine and comp wheel to 750 hp or almost 500rwkw!!!

The smallest I'd use is 38mm Tial and Turbosmart are about all I'd use...
The Tial can be bought for around $370
Or turbosmart $280 http://eagleday.stores.yahoo.net/tuwa.html

Mate no need to do all that leave it as it as they do a great job as is. The Money spent doing all that you might as well put it towards other things like exhaust, cooler, tune etc. There are plenty of XR6T out there with standard turbo running good numbers.

But if your wanting to go bigger then a T04Z with a 1.00 exhaust housing or one of the split pulse turbine housings as apparently they are better coming onto boost. T04z will be great on street and strip, awsome mid and top end. Im more of a street person so i wouldnt go bigger exhuast housing as when boost comes on about 2500-2800rpm u just wona jump on it and hit second gear and hold it all the way up the street gutter 2 gutter hehehe :D

yeah the noise, they sound sick popping off limiter but every other time you just wanna get up it, it's bloody loud.

but like mickyyy said , what power are you after. 340rwkw with the standard turbo and wastegate is very doable.
