Simple answer internal sux suffers from boost spiking (very bad for your motor) Whereas external rocks if set up properly. Very very basic i kno but thats it in a nutshell.

NO they don't!! They can spike like Mr Miligan...
Though I have found electronic boost controlers like turbosmart help in big way as it holds waste gat shut till set boost THEN opens ...
The mechanical control type wastegate in both in / external "can" suffer these issues if not set up correctly , a big trbo on low boost requres a big wastegate.. Generally up to 600 h.p is about the limit with internals gates.. YES the XR6T is 700 h.p... ButI'm yet to see one make that power with std turbo etc.. With std gate etc....It has todo with design of exhaust system too.. I have made a shield in my dump pipes to prevent turbulance also helps wastegate, some early turbo's had some exhaust doing 90* bends as it enters dump pipe...This is a bad design...

the xr6t version of 35/40 is rated at 600hp, since it has the .5comp cover

I'm running 588 rwhp / 438 rwkw and have NO issues with boost control...My fabicating must be better then...
Yes external is more efficiant but I wouldn't write internals off altogether...
As said alot is in design as another thread on here .. Has had issues with external gates....
