Hi Guys
not sure if there is many of you who have heard of rear mount turbo's, but im thinking about doing it to my Fairmont. Just want to hear you opinions on it.

Turbo mounted toward the rear of the car...
What motor, if you have a 4L Fairmont, it's the dumbest idea I've ever heard in my life. If it's a 3V, it's a decent idea, I'd mount them near the gearbox though, near where cats normally are, Like they do on BossTT and APS twin turbo LS1 kits. Either way you are gonna need a pump to scavenge oil. May as well shorten piping as much possible.

Honestly, why?
I can understad on the 3v and the Boss motors where have little to no space, but on a I6 there is an ideal set up waiting to go. Sounds like one of those ideas that although they do work, you'd wonder why.

I've spoken to a couple of people about this before as I was considering it on my XR8. One person told me that turbos are more efficient with the hotter air passing through them and by the time the exhaust gases passed through the exhaust and reached the turbo, you'd have lost heat. I don't know how much of this is true, but it helped sway my decision against it. As well as the running of an oil line and the fact that there's not much clean air under a car. Oh yeah, and a s**t load more piping running under your car...

I cant remember where I found this, but I do recall talking about it around a year ago.
coulda been here, meh neway's I'll post the pic. Still looks pretty sexy, but if you look closely.. its pretty dodgey.

There was thread about a dodgy bros fairlane with the boot cut out to house the turbo that created quite a discussion a few years back.

It's true, the only reason to go 'remote mount' turbo's is for stealth or lack of engine bay room. There's no performance benefit in doing so.
edit: One of the european BMW tuners does a rear mount setup for the new V10 M5.
