All these people bagging the blownV6. Blowers are not about, oh i have 155rwkw, they are all about the low and midrange torque. Gaurentee a blown V6 commie with 160rwkw would SLAUGHTER and EF/L with 160rwkw. absolutly SLAUGHTER it.

What?

I think peoples biggest problem with the supercharged V6 is not that it's crap. Becuause in isolation, it is a pretty good thing (you could do a lot worse), but the fact that a blower is NEEDED to make it stick with a 4.0 litre N/A XR6 just goes to show not only how s**t the stock 3.8 litre is, but how good the 4.0 litre N/A is.

Dunno about your 160rwk Commie SLAUGHTERING a 160rwk Falcon.

I have a 149rkw Falcon and my uncle has a 160rwk S/C Commie and my old man has driven both a few times and has said that my car would outrun the V6. And that's despite the fact that Commodores feel faster! :D

hi
well the v6 s/c has a lot of potential but so does the 4lt 6..
in considering what car is faster .
you should also look at reliabillity i know of a couple of people who own commodors one ownes a vs v6s/c and the other ownes a vt v6.
the vs is pretty quick. the vt not so quick..
but they are both unreliable the vs has had a lot of trouble with head gaskets and engine managment..
while the vt leaks oil like a sieve and has had alot of trouble with power steering pumps and also engine managment..and they both have under 180,000 kms ..

in saying that i know that the fords have some probs with gaskets ect
in my opinion the ford is alot more reliable than the commodore..
also the commodore doesnt seem to have the tourqe that the ford has..

well thats my opinion anyway

I think most people are saying that the S/C V6s aren't really all that good from stock form.

It seems some people on here know of people with some quick S/C V6s (which I had never heard of until this thread, but I live in the isolation that is Perth :P).

If you are going for power, I think the Ford would still be a better way to go. If you get the 6, there are plenty of people here that can help with a turbo setup to bolt onto the side of it, and I would be very surprised if you pulled less than 160rwkw after that.

If you go the blown 8 (of which there are still a fair few people who can help you on here), you would have to have a pretty bad setup/tune to get less than that as well.

As I said, I don't know much about the S/C V6s, and this was the first I have heard of them ever doing anything good, but check out the other forums that people have posted up and make up your mind for yourself.

What does a stock supercharged VT pull down the 1/4? low to mid 16's...
vs. EF XR6 auto...? Manual - 15.5

what ever the case is, there are supercharged VT's running 13's fairly easily without doing HEAPS of mods.
and the cars still legal.
to pull consistant 13's out of an eseries takes a hefty amount of work, and if you go s/c or turbo, then its not so legal.
saying that, not many ppl spend big bucks on the s/c 6 so its not that bigger deal

AFAIK they were quicker than the VT1 SS...

And IntegraBoy (downingj) would you like to tell me how the hell you plan to outrun 160rwkw with 149rwkw in a heavier car? :p.

 Yeah, yeah, alright EF girl. Well firstly, it's not me that's saying it, it's the old boy. He has driven both and said that mine would outrun the Calais. Also, I reckon that my car has more than 149rwk (I'm having it re-dynoed soon) and it has the (arguable) advantage of a manual tranny.

As for the S/C V6 beating the V8. They were about line ball. The difference being that you felt like you were nearly killing the V6 trying to keep up, whereas the V8's are a relatively smooth unit that didn't need to be brutalised to beat the V6's.

It was only when taking on the 4.0 litre that those 5.0 litres had to be really hammered.

HAHA "EF girl" you stuffed up and bagged your own thing. Sucked in :p. I win!
And on the run the 5 speed has a disadvantage, so out running would not be the word. I mean you could probaly outlaunch, flatshift 1-2 and you'd probably hold it for a bit, but if your really only has 149 it'd run you over soon enough.

AFAIK, they never made the S/C V6s in manual either, so if that is what you are chasing, you may have to do a conversion.

Manual XRs aren't overly hard to find.

so is stock form:
EF XR6 manual 15.5
vs.
VT Supercharged auto 15.3-16.3
and why is the auto going to beat the cogger?

if you do decide on the commy, you might save yourself a few bucks by looking for a supercharged s model. im guessing coz it doesnt have all the fruit of the calais it might be a few grand cheaper. depends on whether you can live without all the luxury goodies.

check out www.v6supercharged.com.au (I think it is)... like the xr6 turbo, there is lots of cheap/small things you can do to get the supercharged commodores to get up and boogie. I went down the drags a few weeks back and there was one running 12's - from memory he had spent less than 10k on it too.

if tahts a a blue one...posiibly over grey, its had 20,000 spent on it, the current owner bought it for what you said though...or there abouts
