in another example of how useless holden are
i was reading an article in wheels the other night about the new torana concept and its TT36 engine
now you would think that twin turbo 3.6l V6 all alloy, latest techno crap would be making huge amounts of power
its only got 280kw and 490nm
as opposed to F6 typhoon's 270kw and 550nm from what is essentially a pretty old engine thats been updated many times over the years

i wonder if thats the best holden can come up with...?
surely if it could have made more power they would have done it just to give then bragging rights over the F6 typhoon?

Seems like GMH are a few cubes short of a real engine. Spose they've replaced the peaky buick engine with something even peakier and then just whacked a couple of turbos on there.

Altho im sure its not the best they can come up with. Very rare that a prototype is at 100% of its capabilities. The big question is....

Will they have the balls to produce it or are HSV too precious about "V8's only"?

remember the failure of the HSV XU6
i think HSV will be 'once bitten, twice shy'

but you wouldnt think they would pass up the opportunity to try and one up FPV

specially if the typhoon is as bigger hit as the hype would suggest

The engine in the Torana is engineered to a marketing specification. Remember Holden got burned once before when i had a 6 that made better horsepower than an 8

It is the same for Ford - the IL6T can be made to make heaps more power than the V8 - yet they capped the power figure for the Typhoon below that of the Boss

HFV6 turbos have run well over 300kw during prototype testing and if you want peaky performance just go and drive a Boss 290. Neither Holden nor Ford are producing bad engines these days - they just lack bottom end so they can make good power and fuel economy

The IL6T is still the best engine out there

Well if the Falcon 4.0L was chopped to 3.6l 'theoretically' it would be producing 243kW and 495NM so the TT36 engine aint doin too badly.

Does anyone recall what the Alfa Romeo (I think it is) version of it is going to pump out?

It shouldn't all be about power figures these days however.. Cars these days are getting heavier and heavier, manufacturers need to reduce the weight of these cars because they aren't very efficient. 280kw for a TT 6 cylinder sounds plenty to me for locally made car..

It's just marketing... look at all the de-tuning they did on the xr6t to make it suitable for the general public... can't have a 6 making the V8 like silly can we...

If they did try to "up one on FPV" then they will look like real d***head then. Firstly the car would be s**t anyway and they've already said bad things about Ford making a performance 6 in regards to the Typhoon. If they went a did it they would be hypocrites. They should try it just so they look like fools.

yeah just look what they have done with the xr6T engine 1000hp, s**t over nearly every road registered car around, and the thing there is they reckopn they can sqeez more from it  soon they might be getting 2000hp (dont think that is likely to happen too soon).
but i mean my TTbmx pulls on the gravel meter 2 peddle hp, in car figures thats like 300kw, so my bmx is doing pretty good.

They are going to make a performance 6 from HFV6. It will be on the new platform and be called a SAAB or Alfa Romeo or Opel

Remember that the Vauxhall Carlton Lotus (a narrow bodies VS Commodore) was a twin turboed IL6 from the mid 90's that was the fastes 4 door sedan for some time

Performance 6 cylinder Holdens just don't sell because of all the marketing around the V8 and HSV

Is any of those cars you mentioned made here in Australia?

Thats my point if all their marketing is around V8s then if they ever "try" to make a performance 6 then they'll look like fools. Let Ford stick to kicking their a** in V8s and I6s.
