Hi to all; I'm new to the scene, and I want to get me self a xd, xe, xf or maybe a xg and I was just wondering what would be the best v8 to run? I heard that you can run 302 crank with the 351 rods? is this true.
I would like to run a 302 because I am an apprentice; $$ could be an issue with strokers etc.

cheers

That would be the other way round.....302 rods in a 351....uses different pistons, so as to change the rod-to-stroke ratio.

I had to smile at that one too.

Mind you, I have been toying with the idea of bolting my 6V-71 blower onto a 302 with 351 rods.
The compression ratio would be low as. (I haven't done the maths yet, but it'd be a 1/4" lower at tdc. (1/2 " less swept volume)
Theoretically, with such a short stroke and big bore, it should rev it's head off, which defeats the purpose anyway.
I have 8 clevos to play with, so if I keep blowing them up, so what.
Will get around to it one day

You may aswell just put 351 heads on the 302 to decompress it.

back on topic...if you can pick up a 351 crank and get pistons to suit the 302 rods on 351 crank the money is the same machining wise. So it's worth doing.

Have done that already to the spare motor for the coupe.
The jg66 block is gathering cobwebs on the engine stand.

Still want to try the decomp using the 302 crank and 351 rods. Forgot about the open chamber 351 heads. That'd drop it even more. Thanks for the info.
