5.0's had forged pistons up to '92 which means mostly EB's got the forged piston engine. Having said that it's luck of the draw...I've seen an ED and an EF with the forged piston engine. +10 may mean it's a factory rebuild at .010 over...doesn't necessarily mean they are forged, in fact most likely not.
You can actually check the next time you change the oil by shining a torch up the sump plug hole and looking at the bottom of the pistons.

its the material of the piston that will tell you. I think you would have a hard time reading much through the sump plug hole.

I've done it. It's not too difficult. You can actually read TRW in the top area of the piston. Plus the cast ones have a big machined flat area on the bottom of the pin boss from memory.

Checking head bolts is so much easier. If the 5.0 engine has TTY head bolts, it doesn't have forged pistons. If it has conventional head bolts it has the TRW's fitted. This only applies to Aussie Falcon 5.0's. I've rebuilt 20+ of these engines and this hasn't failed yet

Both the ED and EF engines with TRW's had the TTY bolts too.

All the 5.0’s came into Australia fully built up, even the Tickford ones. The Tickford process was simply a re-manufacture, where the original engine was dis-assembled and then modified before being re-built. This was necessary because by this time Ford USA’s performance engine was the Modular 4.6/5.4, and the only 5.0’s still being made were for non-performance applications like the Explorer. The cams installed in the Tickford engines bare witness to this, as they have the Explorer camshaft stamping and the original ink-jet part number on the end. They were just re-profiled by Crow Cams

In the USA the Ford E7ZE trw forged piston was dis-continued during the '92 model year and replaced by the F3ZE hypereutectic pistion. The TTY head bolts were introduced at almost the exact same time. There was a short transition where both of these were fitted as the superceded stocks of forged pistons and conventional head bolts were non-coincidental, but this was a very short period. Ford Australia bought "batches" of 5.0's from USA and used them continuously in production. So it is possible that a batch of these transitional engines may have made their way down under, and it is conceivable that with some poor warehousing practise in Australia that one or more could have been used in a much later vehicle as Pete mentioned. It is also possible that someone has already swapped the pistons on an earlier rebuild because that is exactly what I do when a block is barely worn and only needs a freshen up - out with the hypereutectics, in with a set of forged pistons.

But what I can say for certain is that I have rebuilt/disassembled over 20 of these engines in the last 3-4 years and they have ALL followed the "head bolt rule". This includes over half a dozen ED-EF engines, all with TTY head bolts and hypers. Half a dozen EB1's, ALL with conventional head bolts and forged pistons. And a similar number of EB2 which were about 50:50 but ALL those that had conventional head bolts also had forged pistons, and ALL those having TTY's also had hypers. So I conclude that the "head bolt rule" is at least a very good guide, and is a simple visual inspection that takes 1 minute from start to finish.

Google TTY (or torque to yeild) Windsor head bolt and there will be plenty of photos. Basically TTY has an integral washer and a dimple in the centre of the bolt head, conventional looks just like an early (pre 1992) bolt head with no integral washer and a flat head (no dimple).
