Time for an update on the conversion...
For those that didn't know; The AU 5.0L Balancer is not useable because it has the wrong pulley location to work with EB-EL style accessories, the pulley is not removable, the 50oz imbalance is not compatible with the 351s' 28oz, and the Encoder wheel is pressed onto a large diameter step on the back.
With this in mind it was decided to make a new Encoder wheel that has a smaller centre hole for pressing onto a small diameter step machined into the back of the stock Balancer.
Shown(sorry bout the blurry pic) on the left is the AU balancer assembly and the new 351 assembly on the right.
Image

Luckily the EB-EL timing covers already have the mounting holes for the Crank sensor so owners of those vehicles only need machine the step in the back of their stock Balancer to allow a Direct ignition conversion using our new Encoder wheel design.

The short goes together this weekend. More pics soon.

Cheers,
Pete.

Ok here's the bottom end together. You can see the nice rubber pan gasket with steel inserts that prevent over tightening of the bolts. They also give you these blue plastic dowels for holding the gasket in place...bloomin marvelous!

Made an interesting discovery....the Balancer on 351's sits further out than that of a 5.0L. It means that the pulley is now 5mm further out than it should be. It's no big deal because there is plenty of running area on the water pump pulley and it will actually help shock tower clearance because I can just space the brackets out further.

Here is the short with High Energy pan.

and the long with rockers and pushrods loosely in place. The pushrods are Trend 0.080" thick one piece and are 7.7" long for the reduced base circle hydraulic roller cam. Rockers are 1.7:1 Cobra bolt on type. Head bolts are ARP and come with hardened washers.

Here it's wearing the new short EFI suitable rocker covers. These are a short version of the Ford Racing tall rocker covers but with nothing written on them.

Here the extra deck height of 351 is apparent.

and finally dressed up with intake and distributor.

Put it this way...I told HE what car it was going into so there better not be!
It was supposed to have been made out of an F-series one with the smooth pan rail. I sent it to them, they stuffed around for 5 weeks then they sent me one made out of a dimpled rail type pan!?!? I had to ask them to send my F-series one back!? Of course I had to fill the dimples in so I could use it with the one piece silicone gasket!
There are 4 Clevelands and one FE in there and also the Cougar

Cheers,
Pete.

Ok, not long to go now....
Here's the Felpro 1250's in place.

Image

And here it is sitting in the bay.

Image

And here with the EB-L brackets on it. I need to go with a remote reservoir power steer pump to give room for the inlet tubing.

Cheers,
Pete.

Quick Q Pete. Do you have another lower fro the RPM manifold lying around. Reason i ask is that my RPM Manifold is for a 5.0, and wont fit my new 351 block. Also, can you send me a PM with your last name so i can send you my ECU as we discussed late last month
Brett

I need to get the car going asap. So I can just plug everything in as before I used the distributor ignition. The EDIS will happen soon after. I still have to make CID encoder and I'll modify the AU engine harness to plug into the ED EECIV main harness.

No I don't have another Performer lower lying around....I bought it new from VPW(yeah I know I was surprised they had one too!).
A new one from them should be in the $500-$600 range I would think.
I already PM'd you with my last name before. Didn't you get it?

Cheers,
Pete.

Ok Folks here's the mods required to the alternator bracket to clear the block ground strap boss(the bolt boss sticking out below the head in the shot below) which now gets in the way thanks to the taller deck height.

Image

Here is the before shot...

Image

And after...

Image

It seems these EFI type rocker covers do have enough clearance for the alternator...

Image

Might have to reclock the regulator housing for clearance.
