In the true spirit of me confusing the s**t out of myself with what to do motor wise and giving everyone here even more reasons to think I have totally lost my marbles , I have started looking at Windsor strokers.
Since it now seems pretty much cut and dried that a 351 based motor would be able to be made work with an AU setup , I have started looking at the bigger stuff.
Keeping in line with my Jewish nature the 393 combo has got my interest.
Is it really as easy and cheap as it seems?
Ok get a 351 roller block.
Add a set of these : http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/e ... /make/ford
Put in one of these : http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/s ... /make/ford
Use a set of these to allow a set of TFS heads to be fitted : http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/t ... /make/ford

I must have stuffed something up. It seems too easy.

Pistons are wrong, you need stock 5.0 type not 347 type. and I'd get Scat rods too.
It's probably still a better idea to get a 408 short from someone like Fordstrokers.com...if you don't mind waiting.

I figured Id get it wrong.
Im thinking Ill most likely get the 408 from Woody as well. A bit of ringing around today saw prices of $1500 outright for a short roller Windsor from the F truck wreckers.
That's basically the cost of shipping and import duties getting a Fordstrokers motor and there is no guarantee that they wont have the cam tunnel cracks from a wrecker where Fordstrokers wont have them.

But just for the interest of it and looking at multiple options how would the following be?
Rods: http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/s ... /make/ford

Can we get away with a 5.955 rod or does it have to be a 5.956? Im assuming the slightly shorter rod would just drop the compression ratio a bees d**k?

Its the thing of coming up with the $15k that would be required to sling that bad boy in that's the issue.
Doing a build of some sort means it doesn't have to be all done at once.
Yes it will still be up there in cost if not more by the time its completed but it doesnt have to be all done in one hit.
If I already had a 351 block Id most likely have it built by BG as Dave is doing with his 347.
Alas I don't have the block.

Well, I know where there is a ton of parts for sale. Including a Dart 9.5 block, matching crank rods and pistons, to go out to 427 cubes. For the right money I would let it all go.

Better off just going straight for the 460 version....
http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/f ... /overview/

5.956 vs 5.955 is probably a generalisation on the their part. It won't matter.
If this dude in Melbourne ever comes through we'll have shorts for $500 odd.

Of course getting an F4 block is not essential either.

Well yeah but it's probably pointless for a hotty... better to go straight for a built 393/408/418.

The block checked out ok. So $600 for an F4 long.
