I have a EB donor car that im doing an engine transplant into a EF, (both v8 - 1 auto, 1 manual). There is no engine in the EF except for the auto which i intend to keep. Is there things to look out for to make the job easier on pulling engine and gearbox out- what to look out for? (EB engine has genie extractors and t5).

I have pulled v8 engines and boxes out of XD, XE's which is straight forward just unsure with these 2 that i have.

a, How would i disconect the fuel line?

b, Can you leave extractors and gearbox on engine when pulling out an putting in or no room?

c, Do i need to take bits off engine?

d, Are engine mounts the same as i dont have the EF ones.

e, Will the EF harness plug into EB engine (looks the same plugs)?

Basically will it come out in 1 hit or need to be separated?

cheers

1. Special tool to remove the fuel line, See a aircon dude, they are a small plastic ring.
2. Gearbox yes, extractors no, plus you will need to remove/unplug the O2 sensores.
3. Dont need to but i would. I would remove front end dress ( PS pump, airon pump, just remove that bracket to the head) same for alternator side.
4. EB are different to EF engine mounts, not sure on the dirrerence but i know they are different.
5. Very similar, Alternator has a different plug, no fan on the EF, it runs thermo's

Can be removed in one hit, but i find it easier to remove them as 2 separate items, especially if you want to retain the auto, it will be easier to do the swap of components on the rear of the engine whilst it is out of the car.

Thanks TerroristGHIA

Just had a look and the driver side extractor is wrapped around the steering shaft with a nut and bolt. How does that separate after undoing the nut and bolt?

Can the extractors be removed from the top of the engine or bottom? (hope its from the top)

Need ot undo both ends of the steering shat and then take the shaft up and back, it will then pop out.
Extractors come from the top usually,When i did mine the heads were off so it wasnt a prob.

A simple way is to raise the rear of the car up and place on jack stands. This allows u to remove the engine out level without tilting it. U need to disconnect all electrical water connections, pwr strg and fuel. I personally would take out the engine and gearbox as a unit from underneath just undo the K frame disconnect the steering shaft and brake caliper 4 bolts your out use a block and tackle to raise the front of the car , it sounds hard but simple and easy to do

I can visualise it as simple but how fooken high will you have to lift the car? You wouldnt be able to get that sort of height in a suburben garage, but i still like your idea.

Where would you lift the car from? How would you hold the engine while the car is being lifted??

Just a quick note here on removal and install of a windsor with extractors still attached - yes it can be done. I did this with mine when the 302 came out. The transmission was unbolted and the intermediate shaft for the steering column was removed to free up the drivers side extractors. All the ancillaries were left on and with the engine hoist and some careful manipulation of the extractors around the bellhousing, the engine could be removed.
It was a hell of a lot easier to undo the extractors once the engine was on the garage floor.
Same for going back in of course - just fiddly getting the installed extractors to nudge around the bellhousing cos its just such a tight fit.
