hi guys
I have access to a 200kw v8 out of an AU ute. wanting to put it into an EB fairmont, just wondering if it is as easy to convert it back to Distributor as the 4lt is? as i would love to avoid the difficult job of switching everything to coilpack. Thanks in advance

yep, find TDC, line your timing marks up and drop it in the hole. easy as that. Make sure you change the flex plate and front dress over though.

ok - I get this, but in what respect, or is it because of the different tooth count?? - in which case eb fairlanes were different to eb falcons.

pretty sure they are the same. unless the balancing weight is different from e to au. pretyy sure x series are slightly different.
afaik e series and au both run same amount of teeth and same starter motor..ive got a starter from my old eb xr8 and its the same as the au one.

The EB Fairlanes (so the DC, NC) are often listed as having the larger flywheel.

I cant remember where that info came from (reading about the first V8's in the e series), however the Engine in my XF (which was from a 92 NC) had the larger tooth count

All aussie 5.0 falcons were 164 tooth flex plates for auto and 157 tooth flywheels for manual, both 50oz imbalance. The same flex plate interchanges EB1 to AU3 V8, same with flywheels & sandwich plates & bellhousings & transmissions & starter motors. The only exception is the AU3 342's, which were roughly 28oz imbalance, and balanced to each rotating assembly - hence why it is approx 28oz.

Before someone pulls me up on it, AU V8 transmissions were 50mm longer than the corresponding e-series transmissions. In my post above it was not clear that I was only referring to the front section of the transmission being the same ie. input shaft length, case bolt pattern, input bearing retainer. Can't comment on transmission mount location, haven't compared

That was only the Manual Transmissions though was it not : Autos were still the same, although the shifter was placed 50mm further back in the car

Not sure. All my AU automatics are in my cars, none in the workshop. If correct it would require different driveshaft lengths for manual & auto. E-series shared the same driveshaft for auto and manual. Of course that doesn't mean AU continued the same trend. Perhaps post the question in the gearbox section. Snap will probably know. AU manuals are definately 50mm longer than e-series. I have a number of I6 & V8 T5's here and have measured their dimensions to death - I cast adapter bellhousings for fitting various T5's onto 6-bolt SBF blocks
