and here's why a 5.8 pan won't fit a 5.0.
The rear main is much larger than a 5.0 as you can see here...

Here's the difference in the pan reinforcing rails....

I completely agree with the above post.

One thing, though. I'm pretty sure a lot of AU drivers have clearance issues with the sump. I've read a number of threads where this has been the case. Apparently some massaging had to be done on the sumps to fit the T3s.

This is correct. a slight massage of the sum is needed.

Just read this thread, it sounds like it fell into the too hard basket, or else the OP ended up lock up after punching on with the workshop!

Either way sounds like people took on way more than they could handle now the OP is the one getting screwed.

No s**t, I'm guessing by the fact he's not replied to his thread in a while, things haven't gone so well for him. Time will tell, I guess.

Hi Guys - I can provide an update as to how this story has continued. The original poster listed what was left of his ride on ebay, and I bought it for what I thought was a fair price (still do, despite a few dramas along the way). None of my business to post publically about how the guy got into such a dire situation, but suffice to say the engine builder and the owner had a major falling out.
OK so what did I buy? Well I picked up an AU XR8 ute with the above mentioned 347 engine complete with heads & intake manifold etc, clutch, T5, 3.45lsd diff, ute tray in good condition. The interior was completely burnt out and the guy had sold the brakes and a few other bits and pieces. I removed the drive train and parted out the rest, quite successfully on Ebay. All good so far, and I got 3/4 of my money pack just on parts. So basically I kept the engine/clutch/gearbox, sold the rest.
Then I had the 5sp stripped down. Inspection showed it was in good nick, so after a few little mods it was ready for fitting to my EB Fairmont. Also had the diff rebuilt, now has 3.7's.
Now for the engine.
It was sold to me as a scat 347 stroker - it wasn't. I base this on the fact that Scat normally stamp Scat on the crank, this one doesn't have that, so more like procomp. My engine guy suggested that as this was to be a mild street car, the crank would be OK. So have had the bottom end fully rebuilt and balanced, had to get rebore + new pistons. So the previous engine guys were either hopless f**kers or trying to get at the previous owner or both. Previous owner had the heads ported in a major way, and I enlisted a local guy with a good reputation here in Qld to rebuild the whole engine top to bottom. End result is a tuff sounding EB fairmont, with a sweet engine that is more than enough for me.
And yes, the rod bolt on #8 piston was hitting the sump - another thing the guy didnt tell me (to be clear the engine was in short form when I bought it, heads off etc, so you are buying blind in a way). Problem solved with a modified high energy sump fitted. Result is I have the engine the original guy probably wanted. I dont hold any anomosity towards the guy, as I got it cheap and I dont feel ripped off. Not sure if he know how bad the engine was anyhow, as it wasnt until we stripped it that the truth was revealed. It was a huge road trip to collect the ute, and the guy contacted us to ensure safe arrival home etc, so I'm giving him the benifit of the doubt that he isnt a total prick. Think he just wanted it all to go away.
So thats what happened guys. Feel free to comment, I'm new to forums etc, but happy to correspond should anyone want to.

Good to hear you have made good from a bad situation, welcome along to the forums as well. As you've mentioned and as most of the previous posters have commented, it is quite clear that the shop who took the OP's money really had no clue of what and how you build an engine. The combo as you have it now sounds like its a nice streeter, and I wish you trouble free miles for the future!

Thank-you for the comments BOTTLEDUP, and yes hopefully no troubles on the horizon. Been trouble free so far. Have A TI Performance custom tune being done on Monday, looking forward to having it all sorted properly.

Hi Raptor.
I dont have much experience with stroker cranks in the first place, so just going by what my engine guy advised. I believe any stroker crank kit needs to be balanced, and it didnt look like mine had been done, so that was the first thing. Most of my expense came from ensuring high quality machining work was performed so the engine will last. We spoke about the virtues of using the existing procomp kit, and my engine guy confirmed it would be plenty good enough. So in my very limited experience, I'd say that the procomp gear is OK. It was really a case of poor engine assembly by the previous people, not necassarily low quality parts. So for my street application with the occasional rev to 6000rpm, I'm comfortable enough to say all is well.
