Hi,

I found an AU intake manifold upper and lower, just want to know if this would be worth getting for my ED Falcon.

If so, do I need a different throttle body as well or will the one I have work?

Thanks

Yeah they are worth getting will basically have same power as an el series2 v8, you can use your standard throttle body and egr plate till you can afford the au ones or aftermarket 70mm items.

I got one from an AU Fairlane, I am assuming this is the same as the XR ones.

Yes, they are all the same explorer manfiold. Some people try to get extra $$ by saying it's a 220kw model. Well unless it comes with the Tickford TB, it aint worth any more than any other explorer manifold.

How much of a difference did the Explorer make? Did you have to change any coolant or vac lines?

Would you say its worthwhile?

Beautiful car mate.

Ah cool, sounds good. Looking forward to pictures and results!

What other mods does it have? Mines all stock, going to fit a catback for a start then go from there. I'm hoping for a noticeable difference from a catback, extractors and explorer manifold. I know power can be had from the GT40P heads, but I'm nowhere near confident enough to pull the heads off

Anyway let us know how you go!

There is in fact a difference between the AU3 XR8 "explorer" intake and all the other AU series "explorer" intakes (earlier S1 & S2 XR's included). On the series 3 XR8 the lower manifold was port matched to the heads. The upper manifold was port matched to the lower manifold, and was also machined out to allow a 70mm TB to fit without restriction.

Replacing an "HO" manifold with an "explorer" manifold & 65mm TB & EGR plate (or 70mm TB) will net around 15-20HP on an otherwise stock HO engine. A very worthwhile power increase for a relatively small investment.

The engine is all stock besides extractors and exhaust. It goes really well at the moment so I will be very happy with the explorer intake.

Will post pics when I have it done.

Thanks for that xafalcon, so I could just port match the one I have to any heads I use in the future. I need to get a throttle body, EGR plate and MAF from an Au as well, should be good with that.

Did it have the exhaust when you got it? What exhaust is it? This Windsor business is all new to me. No idea where to start!

It had a fairly s**t one when I got it, I put a redback on from the cat back. Sounds really good now :)

2.5" I believe. Mandrel bent.

The car ran fairly s**t when I got it, I changed all of the following and now its like a different car:

Fuel filter
Ignition Leads
Rotor
Rotor Cap
Ignition Coil
Fuel rail/lines/injectors cleaned
Spark plugs
Air filter

I dont imagine its as fast as my old Falcon 6 (had cam, exhaust, etc) but it feels a lot nicer and sounds a lot better. Can't wait to get the intake on and then get some alloy heads. :)

EDIT: This is my first V8, so I am still learning as well, researching on here is very helpful.
