I have fitted a 5 litre from a 99 Fairlane to my 1989 4x4 F150.. Started pining out ECM with the basic info I have but still have no spark or injector pulse, I feel I'm missing a input to the ECM.! I have the J3 chip fitted to override the smart shield and auto trans! If Anyone out there has any information on this would be greatly appreciated??

No I mean the fuel pump not the engine. If you turn the ignition on but don't crank does the fuel pump run for a.couple of secs then stop?

Ok either your chip is not programmed properly, or its dodgy or your EEC has a disabled J3 port. Btw I can get your EEC flashed to remove the smart shield. That way you'll never have this problem.

Bugger! That chip is brand new! Haven't even ran it yet. I will get in touch with the guys I got it through.

How much will you charge to flash the ECU?

It may still be ok. You may have one of those EECVs that has a disabled J3. They basically have a coupla tracks disconnected.
It's $300 to flash it out and I think it's a better way to go all round. It's what I would do and then use a moates 1/4 horse to recal in real time. Then if you have a finalised cal that can also be flashed in and the 1/4 horse can be moved to another vehicle if required.

Yeh ok.. I thought being the series 1 this would work and the easier way to go!

So your saying with only 71 and 97 pins powered up this should give it spark?
