I own an Au V8 Gia Sedan (1998) and there is a noise coming out of a valve which is on a small PVC pipe right behind the front left headlight. There is wiring going to this valve and the valve is vibrating or hunting about 50% of the time. The pipe work that this valve controlled appears to come along the chassis rail with the fuel lines and goes into a steel box about the size of a brick right behind the headlight (via this valve). This box has another pvc pipe which is a breather and a third pipe coming out of it that goes back to the intake manifold (directly in the middle) I suspect it is some form of petrol vapour control s**t. The performance of the vehicle is not effected weather or not the valve is hunting or not. The question is

1. Is the valve going to be faulty or is the valve hunting because the "brick is blocked"?

2. The valve is not always vibrating so I suspect it is computer controlled somehow.

3. I believe the electric valve is receiving good voltage levels.

Can anyone tell me if the valve is faulty or the brick is blocked. And what is all this stuff, given that it is not functioning properly but the vehicles performance is not effected.

All comments gratefuly received.

Is it a "ticking"-if so its the valve to the charcoal canister. The noise can get annoying but is not harming the vehicle in anyway. Some call it the Tickford Tick.

Hey mate,

That ticking is your purge canister control solenoid. I will tick to its hearts content, there is no really stopping it. You could buy a new one, but it too will start to tick eventually.

Best bet is to just get some old rags and stuff to wrap around it and tap it up. This will dull down the ticking a bit.

But is just one of those things you gotta live with.

(You could always get a nice dual 2.25" system to help drown out the tick with a bit of the good ol' windsor noise!!!)
