need to replace the idler pulley on my au xr8 ute. wanted to know if performance pulleys are availible or wether
they are already under driven? |

AU's are underdriven from factory.

Btw I'd be able to show you why they aren't underdriven and calculate the drive ratio of any pulley setups but this forum won't allow me to upload an Excel sheet for some reason?

The trouble is most of these people that say they are underdriven, only look at the diameter of the smaller crank pulley and think straight away they are underdriven but, it's the relationship between the crank pulley and the other pulleys that matters. Here's a copy of my sheet that you'd be able to use if I was able to upload an excel sheet... Maybe I could PM or email it to you if you're interested? After measuring all of the pulleys I've worked out the approximate drive ratios to each of the accessories. On E-series we have for the; Alternator 2.827:1 Water pump 1.355:1 Pwr steer 1.12:1 For AU it's; Alternator 2.9:1 Water pump 1.272:1 Pwr Steer 1.19:1 That means; AU alternator is overdriven approx 7% compared to E-series. AU Water pump is underdriven approx 8% compared to E-series. AU Pwr Steer is overdriven approx 7.5% compared to E-series. Average 3.3% underdriven compared to E-series(or in technical terms f**k ALL!) Now E-series underdrives; Alternator 2.27:1 = 55% underdriven compared to stock E-series Water pump 0.778:1 = 57% underdriven compared to stock E-series Pwr Steer 0.842:1 = 28% underdriven compared to stock E-series Average 46.6% underdriven compared to stock E-series |

It seems I can't upload excel files to photobucket either DC.
So, anyone who wants the file just email me. Excel experts could probably improve it too...I'm not very good at it. |

It's mainly about leverage, moments of inertia.
Best way to describe it is; Try opening the front door on your house by pushing right close to the hinge...it's bloody hard, it takes a lot of power. Open it by the handle and it's easy, doesn't take much power at all. |

This is how I ran AU EECV on my XG 5.0 van but we could apply this to AU engines.
We made this encoder wheel and pressed that onto an E-series balancer. We could do the same thing and machine a pulley with a bit of offset to align with the rest of the AU front dress.
