my dad has just bought himself a BA xr8 with a 5 cogger and a few go fast bits like an SS induction intake, k and n pod and a catback exhaust. my query to anyone who owns one of these is with dad's at just before 4 grand you feel the engine pull really hard as if it has an aftermarket cam in it.. i am wondering if this is standard or if its been played with a bit. it is going on the dyno within the next couple of days to see what its doin too

Nah, thats pretty much what the Boss feels like. It takes a bit to get that initial push into the seat, but around the 3grand mark it starts to kick in and drown you in leather......or cloth, which ever you have.

That's just standard for a boss, they have no low down power. Put some 3.7 diff gears in it to get it moving better

yeah me old man had his tuned and exhaust done by RDP and it really pulled from bout 4 but no down low i think he put 4.11 diff gears in and now loves to burn tyres off the mark may be a bit potent but i love it each to there own. he's had several people tell him that cams and throttle body don't give you that much in a boss the only way to gain mass power is blow him

4.11s is too much for the 5 speed, 3.7s suits them much better

I was talking to C&V Performance yeasterday and from what they where saying a manual would go 3.9 and a auto would go 3.7

I am looking at getting new diff gears in my ute and its a auto so im also wondering what people think would be good.

Sorry not trying to take over the thread just wondering thats all

griffo, not too sure what the best combo's are for the turbo's but with the 8's it goes like this...

4sp/6sp auto - 4.11
5sp man - 3.7
6sp man - 4.11

Might be an idea to check out the ba turbo forum and see what people use

for the 4spd auto turbo i would leave the 3.46's in there, people have run 10s with them, if you want more off the line, put a 2800rpm stall in it...
i thought griffos turbo was a sedan anyways?
or did you buy a ute dude?

the BOSS v8's are a little sluggish down low, some diff gears and a tune should sort that out though :D

Tom, put a Pos Displacement charger on it and you'll kill any turbo on the road :P

Look I can understand the patriotic stand you have for the boss but unfortuneately they have a myriad of problems if you want to mod them. I m no engineer but Ive worked for Ford since they came out and I can tell you that bang for buck the turbo is just the better option.Oil supply probs, piston speeds, weight, size the list goes on. They were conceived by ponytailed marketing gurus competeing with Holden with leftover F truck stuff. Buy a Turbo. Theyre heaps better man.

Love my Boss. It may love a drink and understeer but it sounds great when I sink the slipper. Sorry, but I'm a sucker for the V8.
