Hi fellas,

As some of you may know I just recently picked up a XR8. The car is dead stock 302. I have been looking into modding it.
I want to keep it as a neat cruiser! I do not want to turbo or supercharge it as all of my other cars are already turbo or supercharged.

I would like to run 12sec quarter miles! Now from the little research I did it takes a lot of modding to get a 302 to make this kind of power.

So I am looking at either a stroker or a complete new bigger engine. I am leaning more towards a complete new bigger engine that I can just drop in ie 400!

But I just want to know if I need to get engineers etc for all this?

yes you will need an engineer for it all, but nobody will touch it, NCOP's state user certified it 15%, engineer states 20% engineer certified. So basically 15% on your 302 is pretty much 45 cubes so you can do a 347 as an owner certified build, you can do 20% or 60 cubes with the 363 kit being the realistic option.

You would need to run it on E85 to pass emmisions.
Depending on your engineer, they may want a brake upgrade that is adr compliant.

Mind you, do a 363 into a dart block, then once engineered, do a sneaky 408 into it.

Or you could go an F roller block 351, engineer that, as a 408 is like doing a 347 from a 302.

Thanks for that mate. I was hoping to stay away from all that engineer stuff as I just don't have the time for it!
But you have given me a few ideas. A 408 would be awesome, pure tyre frying machine :D

Do the 408, write 5.0 on it and don't tell anyone.

Lol! I am leaning towards that!

I have emailed a few of my regular workshops to see what combo they come back with!

What sort of power can you get out of a mild 408?

A relatively mild 418 in an EB GT made 500rwhp IIRC. BOTTLEDUP knows more about it.

Engineering is not hard bud... Talk to engineers on the RTA list and ask what needs to be done if you put in a 351 etc

Emissions for EF/EL isn't that hard to pass with good cat converters and good tuner...

People make it out that engineers are super hard to deal with but there not!!! Well here in NSW not really!!!

That EBGT had a 351 in it before the 408, and it's got a T56 Magnum too. Pretty sure he's got standard EBGT brakes as well. This is from his AFF build thread:

"There"s a lot of interesting reading in those Standards, for example when looking at maximum engine capacity it works like this,

All vehicles originally weighing more than 1100kg, Original mass (kg) x 5.0 = max. Capacity in cc’s

So my GT @ 1674kg (standard auto) x 5.0 = 8370cc”s.

1ci=16.387cc

8370cc = 510cubic Inches!!!"
