dou you need to lift the engine to change the sump gasket on a 5L v8 out of a DC LTD?

yep motor has to be jacked up

To do it properly, yes.
Otherwise you can drop the sump and slide a new gasket in. But get a good gasket, cause they can be s**t to sit in place properly sometimes.
