Hi guys,

I wanted to replace the coil in my EL XR8 as I am doing some work to the engine soon. I bought a factory replacement from Bursons and the car hasnt been running that well, I tested it and the Secondary resistance is already out of spec. I put the origianl factory one in and its running better.

What coils do people recommend for the factory ignition system? I have heard the MSD ones are no good. Any recommendations??

I've had good results with Cranes' PS91 or 2. Better still with a Hi-6 of course.

And that coil will mount up to the factory loom without any modifications? Will it mount into the factory mount?

Thanks

Yep and that's the PS series coils not the LX series which frankly, are s**t.

Use the 91 if you're only using just the coil but the 92 if you're using the CDI Hi-6. Read their website to be sure. Even a Hi-6 with the stock Ford coil is way better than just changing the coil.

Having just done this exact mod to my 351, and can not aggree enough with Pete. Well worth the outlay and works brilliantly, Plug and play as well.

Ok guys. I have decided I am going to get one of these ignition boxes too. My car is a EL XR8 and will have GT40P heads, full exhaust, all the standard bolt ons etc, so very mild but I want to get it tuned to make the most out of it and that means having a great ignition system.

Will there be a good benifit using the system on my combo? What should I open the plugs up to to make the most of it with the PS92 coil as recommended above?

What is involved in wiring it up Terrorist? Is there any adaptors I should buy to make it plug and play etc??

Thanks for all the info guys.

Order this kit
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CRN-6000-6301

It has the harness in it for the 5.0, which makes it plug and play. Then all you need to do is earth it.

Couldnt be easier.

Brett
