I recently bought a XE with a 351 cleveland. I was doing some research on the numbers above the water pump to the right on the block. I got some information about it and I was set. Then a couple weeks later I was getting ready to pull the engine and took the starter motor off. Then I saw a number which said D2AE-CA, I did some more research, the internet said that it was a cobra jet engine, I wasn't convinced because it said it only came in 3 or 4 differen't types of vehicles and a falcon wasn't one of them. So I want to know what type of engine it is. Thanks guys!

More importantly...the engine number itself...on the passenger side of the integral cam chain housing.....is it the same as the chassis number...if so, it is a matching numbers car.
If it has a prefix like 'AL', then it is from an 'F' series.

What is the 'F series'?

Yep, That's because D2AE-CA is the engineering number for the block casting and doesn't designate the particular type of engine. It just means an engineering revised casting produced from 1972-on.
F-series is the truck series like F100.
