Aye lads! About to throw some dollars at the 'lane. First thing's first. Got an Explorer to go on. Any thoughts or suggestions on porting/polishing/matching/gasket etc? I've already got AFR 165's to go on as well, possible blower/stroker in future. Any thoughts appreciated

Port match the manifold to the heads, spacer and throttle body. Look into a cam swap while the top end is apart, it isn't too much more work at this point.

Yeah the only reason i didn't mention cam upgrade yet was that'd mean tune aswell and might blow tha budget bit close to xmas. Thought some 1.7's might do for now?...would definately make sense though...

In all honesty, small cams, you don't need a tune. I'm running a T3 cam, GT40P's, Explorer, 1.25" Phenolic Spacer, 65mm throttle body and a 70mm MAF on the stock tune.

Yeah so she runs alright but obviously not to the full potential? That's ok then.

Don't ruin the essence of that car.. It's a Luxo cruiser.. A damn fine car.

Keep it quiet, refined and torquey.

I would do the explorer, a full exhaust system, panel air filter, but keep it on the quiet side and a set of 3.45/3.7 diff gears to give it a bit more poke..

Just a set of diff gears will outperform the mild motor work mentioned above and keep it quiet and refined.

considering you already got heads, port matching the manifold would be good imo..
the ports in the explorer are small compared to aftermarket alloy heads.

wont make a huge difference but an improvement is an improvement..

Heads, cam, manifold, valve springs, throttle body. When going with the manifold, get them to drill it so you can fit your IAT sensor in close to the factory position.

If you want a cam theres a fellow member here with an E303.

Like has been said match port the lower, throw a phenolic spacer on away you go.

I wouldn't do the diff gears until you sort the rest of what you are doing out.

Id add a tune with all that and happily run low 14's in a crusier.
