I'm not 100% sure if it's the same on the 8s but most dizzies have a mark or notch cast on the lip of the dizzie. ( you'll need to take the cap off to see it ) That is where the number 1 lead goes, then work your way around the rest of them ( following the direction the rotor turns ) 1 then 3 then 7 etc....
Hope this helps.

30 deg before tdc seems a bit much to me. but i dont know falcon 8's very well.. what are they supposed to be?
id say loosen the dizzy retaining bolt and turn it backwards a little bit and give it another kick. or i you have another person handy get them to crank the car while you slowly turn the dizzy.
just remember to wear some gloves in case it decides it likes your hand better that the spark plugs.

ok so after replacing the dizzy is the rotor meant to face the number 1 piston (driverside closest to front of car) or where the number 1 spark plug lead attachs to the dizzy cap???????

Rotor faces the number 1 lead (edit, where it attatches on the dizzie cap) however the Number 1 piston MUST be at Top Dead Center (T.D.C.) at the same time. If the rotor isn't pointing at the No 1 lead position with No 1 piston at T.D.C you'll need to take out the dizzie, rotate the cog at the bottom and put it back in until it does line up. It might take awhile so be patient. Then she should fire up, it'll run like a pig until you adjust the timing. If, after getting it going again, you can't get the timing to adjust to the proper mark you're probably a tooth or 2 out on the dizzie. So take it back out and try going 1 tooth at a time either way and see which way the mark moves while you're setting the timing. Trial and error, but you'll get there in the end.
The next time you take the dizzie out, get a paint pen and mark on the lip of the dizzie where the rotor is pointing before you remove it, and also make a mark on the very bottom of the dizzie where it mounts on the engine, leaving a mark on the engine you can use to line everything back up. makes life a hell of a lot easier when it comes to putting it back in.

this has only just started just after i had extractors installed.
i figured since the old v8 did 387,000ks id swap it for something newer hense i picked up and el xr8 motor with only 118,000ks on the clock for a grand
but since im still having issues does any one have any ideas on what could be the problem???

No worries mate, glad to help out. That's where these forums come in handy, there is a wealth of knowledge to be found here.
Unfortunately I can't help you with your new problem, but no doubt someone else will have some thoughts / advice.
