Has anyone converted an EF/EL 6 to a V8 engine? Is using an EL V8 easiest? Will a later model AU V8 fit and what would need to be converted?
If using a EF/EL V8, what was needed and what was kept in regards to wiring looms etc.
Cheers,
Darren.

Judging by other i6-V8 conversion threads, if you were to obtain a V8 engine, you would need a Donor EF/EL XR8/ any other low-high series EF/EL car equipped with a V8 to complete the conversion. With the the Au who knows?

I'll have a go at this one, as I have converted my EF GLi to be EL 5 litre, same concepts apply.

1) I beleve it wont matter weather you use an EF or an EL motor, motor itself is the same, as is all the wiring on the engine. I used an EL engine.

2) ALL EL wiring looms are DIFFERENT to EF, apart from the H loom, so if your donor car is an EF, you will need to swap EVERY loom from the front to the back of the car, that was one HELL of a job when I did mine.

3)Regardless, you'll need to change the LH and RH side engine bay looms, but as long as it's from a low or mid series EL, it will all just plug in to your dash and H loom.

4) if it's from a high series, you will need to fit the high series dash loom, climate control and high series bits to the heater box (there is a climate control conversion doco here on fordmods, but you wont need to worry about the wiring side of it, as it'll all be wired as per a proper climate control car)

5) Your H loom is compatible with ANYTHING you choose to do, but I'm unsure about AU stuff.

6) V8's have a different pedal box than a 6 cylinder if your'e using an auto, if it's a manual they are the same

7) You need to change all power steering lines, transmission cooler pipes, fuel lines (you can cut off the ends of some V8 fuel lines, and connect them to the original 6 cylinder lines with rubber hose)

8) The fuel pump is the same, dont worry about it

9) V8's tend to run marginally hotter than the 6's so dont be alarmed when your temp gauge needle climbs a bit higher

10) Exhaust manifolds can be slipped in beside the motor, no need to do em with the engine out

11) Other than that, everything's pretty much the same, need some different air con lines, different heater hoses and rad hoses, Suspension for a V8 is heavier duty, and I reccomend using slotted rotors and heavy duty brake pads, and dont forget, the V8 Gearboxes are different as well

965 Billion) I think the conversion is well worth it, car goes ALOT better than it did with the 6, I have to fix my gearbox now though doh

Yeah it's not a job for the feint hearted, but I enjoyed doing it, and it was a big learning experience for me, but yeah quite alot of work.
