ive just built a new motor for my ef xr8, got new heads n s**t and am trying to get the power steering pump and bracket assembly off my old heads. and i dont know if im doing it wrong but there is one bolt left to remove bracket off head that is half covered by the pulley. to get pulley off im under the impression that u have to remove the hex nut in the middle holding it on. me and a mate have been busting out a**'s trying to get that nut undone but cant. even got rattle gun onto it but cant even move it. any one know a trick to get it off, otherwise im just going to go buy a whole new assembly. thanks

the pulley is pressed on that hex nut is there so that the pump can be tested on a bench tester

There is a specific puller required for this. It's about $130 from Repco or similar. You may also need to heat the pulley with the puller tightened up hard to get the pulley to move. I used a heat gun, but it was still a lot of work!

I had a puller, but sort of gave it away recently... :?

Probably way too late to help you, but it may benefit others in the future. I have found two ways of doing this without a puller.

1. Undo the two bolts that have easy access first. Then use an open end wrench while rocking the bracket and you will slowly be able to undo the last bolt. As the bolt undoes the whole bracket assembly moves away from the head. Takes about 5 minutes to undo. Installation is the reverse.

2. Drill a large hole through the PS pump pulley to access the 3 pump retaining bolts (male tork head, 3/8 drive socket keeps the hole as small as possible). The whole PS pump can then be removed from the bracket. This cost me about $4 for the right size tork socket. The whole operation takes about 15 minutes (I used a die grinder to open the hole out).

Good luck

i had some problem just the other weeka actually. I ended up buying a new bracket and power steering pump for $120, cheaper than buying tool or paying someone.
