Howdy Guys.

Ive just taken my EF XR8 off the road, and picked up a dead straight no rust country I6 EL in the colour I want.

Now my initial plan is/was to just use the EF Engine Harness with the EL Dash Harness. The only issue that I can see is the ABS Pump Differences, but I can work with that.

Is there any other gotchas?

Are the Dash looms the same from I6 to 8 in the EF and EL Series? - at least within their own model?

I dont mind if there is a difference from EF to EL - I can work that.

But my concerns are more about the Trans Power/Economy Switch, and other signals that the V8 may need

Anyone have any idea

Thanks

Nigel

Fan wiring and SSPS are different EF - EL. The EF routes these circuits from the ecu loom, through the dash looms, then into the powder distribution loom. So best to keep all the looms from the same vehicle & engine/trans. I don't know about I6 v's V8 loom compatability. Check with papa smurf for part numbers and post back here so others can follow in the future. Everything powertrain control-wise is the same EF-EL, except EL2 XR8 sometimes has no EGR & EVPS.

OK - so I have no SSPS (Its just a Fairmont, not a Ghia), and I already have 100% of an XR8 with the right ECU's etc.

The Fan Wiring doesnt scare me too much - although your comment about them being routed through the dash is a tad curious.

I may just simply pull the XR8 engine harness apart, and the EL one, and integrate them so I dont screw up the ABS etc

EL V8 ECU SSPS uses 1 of the EF V8 ECU fan pins, so all harness wiring will reflect that. EF = 4 fan relay control wires, EL = 2 fan control + SSPS. Now I don't know if Ford universally max-wired the EF-EL. They did for EB-ED V8's. But EB1 & EB2 V8's had completely different looms, and then late EB2/ED V8 was different again when smartlock was introduced.

If it was me, I'd use all the EF wiring and fans and modify the ecu loom for ABS as you thought. (I didn't know the ABS was different, but I've never owned an EL)

I didnt know the ABS was different, but reading I saw a lot of "Latest Bosch 2.x abs" or something like that.

Different connector. One new Wire, a few different locations. 2 * 15 pin plugs become 1 * 30.

I dont want to use the V8 EF Wiring in dash - because its only XR8

Good luck to me - I'll come back in a few months when I have the answer
