The wifes car isnt starting as in wont even crank over. no ticking for a flat battery or whiney noise for a dodgey starter motor battery showing a solid 14 volts

ive checked relays, fuses, leads, and the other usual quick things

the key turns to the ON position radio and lights all work fine just no cranking.
the (!) comes on when trying to start the car

dizzy perhaps? the old manual isnt to indepth

any ideas?

So the same effect as though the gear selector is in R or D ?
Could be the BEM if all the fuses and relays are intact.
In fact I had the same type of fault a few months back, that is that it was dead quiet.
I whacked the crap out of the starter motor with crow bar and it then cranked over & started up.

I had the same problem with my wagon, I did the same thing that Vic did, smashed the starter motor a few times with a great big shifter, and it fired up no worries, and hasnt had a problem since.

Just curious but do you need to tow the car if all you have to do is whack the starter motor in your driveway? Save yourself some money and smack the starter motor!

hi,has the starter motor been replaced, solinod contacts burn out and wont contact, brushes wear out.does it click when you turn the key, also on autos the neutral safety switch on t bar and the gear selector on the side of the gear box,try the P or N to start,it needs a signal for neutral to start.hope it helps.

ok,so starter works.inhibitor switch is position sensitive.there is another pain i just thought of,its the tfi module on the side of the dizzy,a 6cyl one will work on the v8,no spark.
