Get an ELGT, Pull the drivetrain out and fit a 393-427ish windsor(which you can run with the stock EECV),T56 and nine inch.
That way you can put all the stock stuff back in after if you want to sell it.

Thank Christ for that, As Troy said... the ugliest E series ever build and an blot of shame to the GT badge.

You say a blot of shame to the GT badge, the funny thing is the EL GT is more of a GT than all these newer BA/BF and FG GT's and for one reason only..... amount built. Yes some might not like the look of EL GT others love them, but dont call them a blot of shame on the GT badge. These new GT's and GTP's are built in there thousands, taking away any sort of prestige from the original GT badging. There were only a few hundred of the EL GT's made which makes them more of a GT than any BA/BF or FG.
I have actually owned a GTP before and yes i agree they are an amazing machine but i still stand by what i have said above.

XR-B GT's were built to order. There were close to 2000 XY GT's built. They were the XY equivalent of an XR8 in reality.

This! I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned earlier, take GT motor & box out and store in garage. Smack a dart block in, alloy heads w/ box etc etc. can always change back!

I'm an owner of an ED XR8 Sprint and can really relate to this thread 100%. Although not as valuble as the EB and EL GT's they are quite rare and still worth a pretty penny. They however like the EB and EL GT's are worth more when stock and unmolested. I also love to tinker with my cars so it a tough predicement. I have owned the car for 12 months and in that time ive only upgraded the exhaust and suspension. All the original parts have been bubble wrapped and boxed and put into storage to allow refitment when it comes time to do so. I believe aslong as you keep everything so it can be turned back to it's original state then it's fine. For me a V8 has to have a good note to it so the exhaust was changed. I also don't like stock suspension so I opted for some lowered springs and Koni struts.

+1

This is by far the best option if you wish to go the EL GT route.

^ +2!

Do what the Tickford engineers wanted to do, but didn't think they could do!

I'm hopefully getting my hands on a low km, manual EL GT soon to do a tune on in stock guise. It'll be interesting to see how much extra power is there for the taking.

Price? Cos they usually got for above $40k

I think Scaffy means for tuning not to buy....

Yeah, I'll just be tuning it, if we can get the owner over the line! Jeff's working him pretty hard, too! Haha.
