Hey guys just wondering if others have experienced similar problems before

Car is el xr8 s1, manual
mods, gt40p, y/t rockers from an au, au220 cam, explorer manifold, 65mm tb and au 70m maf, also has a j3 chip, hurricane headers

car has been running good since early September when i did the mods but last Friday problems started

it was a hot day in Sydney and big traffic as it took about 50mins to go 10km, then once we had open road i go to give it a hit and the car would struggle to move, jerk around and backfire, i limped it home

it was fine over the weekend

yesterday leaving work again, as soon as i pulled out, it would jerk, back fire, knock, struggle to rev over 2000rpm, would stall and the idle would jump all over the shop

got home ripped the j3 chip out, and the car went better

then again this morning driving to work, it was fine until the heat soaked the engine, when i got on the juice pedal it felt like a dog, and was begging me not to rev it out

the car is driveable with slight throttle but when you open it up it has nothing (but sound, still sounds good :P), i am thinking along the lines of coil/dizzy / or dizzy cap and rotor button

any ideas, and tips are welcome

thanks
Andy

TFI module most likely.

Does the chip have the correct mass transfer function for the AU MAF? And the right slopes for the blue AU injectors?

Could also be your fuel pump or your MAF.

Changed the coil, also took off the dizzy cap and it was full of dust/shavings and there is lots of play in the shaft, ordering a new distributor tomorrow, wiped the dizzy cap and the car seems to go better

Have you run the car on the dyno with that combo and the J3 chip, to check the AFRs?

Scaffy, I left the j3 chip out for now

I do want to run it on the dyno with and without the chip to check out the afr and see if the chip needs to be retuned, or just find a workshop in Sydney who tune the j3

Thermostat and purge relay can cause issues also...
If engine doesn't get up to temp it will run rich..
If purge relay doesn't work ?? It lets hydrocarbons through engine
and 02 sensors try to lean it out, engine loses power...
Inlet and coolant temp sensors can cause similar issues...

Where is the purge senior relay? I've been having similar issues for years! It had a fault code for the purge senior, so I swapped it for another, but no joy. I assumed it wasn't the problem and forgot about it.

Thanks, Mike

Where is the purge solenoid relay? I've been having similar issues for years! Ithad a fault code for the purge solenoid, so I swapped it for another, but no joy. I assumed it wasn't the problem and forgot about it.

Thanks, Mike

Purge solenoid is up front under the left guard by the ABS pump. Follow the vacuum line that runs forward from underneath the upper intake manifold.

Thanks mate, but I have replaced it before. I'm wondering if it's controlled by a relay somewhere that is playing up?

Controlled directly by the ecu
