I am about to embark on the same project so will be interesting to see replies. I am armed with the workshop manuals so pretty happy with doing it myself - my issue is the SVI LPG system on the car as I have to remove the plenum and try to keep the whole thing intact...

The head removal is fairly straight foward however there is a lot to remove and potential for skinned knuckles and lots of swearing(I figure this as I have a mini and with one head I managed to huck most of my tools about - figure I will need a tanty time out to go and pick them all up!!)

The best thing to have is a second car - you will need it! I get to use my garage pit for the first time too!!

Hooroo and looking forward to advice on the ins and outs of 2 heads vice one!!

I can't imagine it would be too strenuous, if have the right tools and can operate them, you should be able to do it.

I basically rebuilt my T5 with no mechanical knowledge, apart from a few crappy pictures. Dad helped me for the harder stuff like operating the bearing press etc.

Take your time and remember where everything goes you should be sweet. Once all the acc and brackets , intake etc are off, can't be too hard to undo the head bolts, reset the gaskets, and torque the head bolts.

EB V8's were the cross-over model for TTY head bolts. Make sure you correctly identify which ones you have and follow the right instructions. Most manuals don't cover both. Make sure you remove all the gasket residue, which will take quite some time. The silver coating sticks like you know what to a blanket.

go ebay item title: ford au fairmont GT40P heads te50 tickford xr8 ts50 genuine tickford.
pickup carnegie 3163 so they are in melbourne.rockers are crane cams. the bloke rekons only done 110 thou k's and they are at $455 with 2 days to go........ Dont know if thats cheaper than on here or not but i search all the time for s**t for my nc 5l on there and they came up so thought you might wanna check em out when i read your post. Maybe too unless your REALLY sure the heads are great, prob best to go and get them acid bathed and machined, last time got em done in a 6 xf it cost around $200, dont know what these heads would cost but it would suck a** if you go to all the trouble getting them on and the gasket goes or there is a problem and you have to take them off and get it done anyway. Do it once and do it right i rekon

You'd expect to pay up to 600 for TE the heads and rockers. The rockers sell for around the 250 mark on their own

They are good value at that price, i'd buy em if i i had something to put them on

Was ages ago but Yella Terra were offering brand new GT40P heads for a reasonable price. Could see if they still have them for sale.

They are a better flowing Ford designed head, used successfully in the U.S. Ford Explorer and Ranger SUV's.
They flow better than the stock standard E7 Ford heads fitted on the EB - EL V8 models.
Ford Australia used them in the EL GT, FBT and the AU XR8 models with Yella Terra modifying them for some of the Tickford XR8 models, especially so for the AU T-series strokers.
They are also much cheaper than aftermarket SBF heads but do not flow anywhere near as much as them.

Makes sense, thanks Vic. Would import Stang heads be worth a go for a 302? Maybe you could get cheap ones from the net imported. I know the underdrives from the U.S for the same year stang, if they fit are going to cost me $100 less than from Perth. I'm going to enquire but thought U.S might be an option
