Pulled my left hand head off today and it was carboned up to the s**t,number 8 is wet but im thinkin it was because i put oil in it for the wet compression test, while the head was off i noticed little bits off something in the guts off the valve springs,im assuming it is whats left of the valve stem seals, would ****ed or lack of valve stem seals cause low compression and does any1 have a close up pic of what a clevo head should look like with the stem seals and valves, springs etc installed as i would like to know if that is what i think it is.im gonna pull all the springs out and inspect further plus reseat the valves if they look ok,the head gasket looked ok but im still not to sure if im gonna have to do rings, only want to do budget repair so i can get it in the and driveable without a s**t of smoke.cheers for any 1s help

YEP after about 10 years the valve stem seals break up.. Doesn't do much for oil pump either...
The bad seals will cause carbon build up under valve... Don't re fit cheap seals...

check stem wear and valve seats, spring tension as you may have to shim the springs.before you push out the valves make sure the tops are not mushroomed or rolled as it will tear the guide holes bigger.

These run an umbrella type valve steam seal, it dosn't take long before these seals crack up again after a rebuild. the last time i rebuilt my clevo i used vavle steam seals that suit a 4.0lt EB they push onto the head and run a sping around the seal to seal against the vavle. work great.
