Hey guys

I recently purchased an ED 5.0 and whilst doing my routine spark plug and lead change I noticed something was broken, it's a solenoid thingy with vaccum hoses running to it. What struck me as a little odd was neither my old NF 5.0 or EL 5.0 had one like this or in the same spot atleast so im not 100% sure what it is. The part number is E53E-A1A 9J459. It doesnt seem to really worry the car and it tends to run fine however I can feel a vaccum suck coming from the hose thats meant to push onto the broken part. I have enclosed a picture too, cheers

Its the purge solenoid for the carbon canister. The carbon canister catches the fuel vapours from the tank when the car is off. When the car is running it purges the vapours into the vacuum system.

No it's the EVR.
Or EGR Vacuum Regulator.

It is located out of harms way behind the windscreen washer bottle on EF-EL V8's. A much better place for a non-user-servicable part so that they don't get damaged. The EB-ED V8 location can result in mechanical damage as yours has, or even catch fire from exhaust heat. I have seen examples of both. With a grey cap it seems likely that someone has already replaced it before, most EB-ED V8's used a black cap version

I've fixed a couple of these before by using a very small 1/8" press in barb and glued it in with epoxy.
