Hey, could someone tell me how to set the timing on a EL XR8. I have recently bought this car and have be working through the bugs the previous owner plagued this poor girl with. I noticed it lost power at about 4K and thought it was fuel pressure, but when I bought it, it had the air flow meter disconected. This cause an open loop and restricted the timing advance but it reved freely. With the air flow meter connected I retarded the timing and hey presso... good power through to 5500 rpm. But now I don't know were the timing is. What's the trick? I have a time light..help.

Put the car in base idle mode by shorting the top left and bottom left pins

it'll increase the revs and when it drops back down after about 30 seconds or so then you have 2 minutes to adjust it

loosen the nut at the bottom of the dizzy so that it is loose and can move left and right freely, use your timing light to read the degrees on the balancer and set it to the desired timing

tighten bolt, take it out of base idle mode and it should be right

Also, a spade crimp is perfect for bridging the two terminals in the diagnostic plug.
