Gday, i want to buy an EL XR8 which is under the restricted limit for a p plater, but it is on the banned list anyway. It is illegal for me to drive the car, but im not concerned about that, my only concern is weather i can get insurance or not.

My friedn went through this, as he wanted to buy a v8 Beemer, and he told me that i can definately get insurance, but the insurance company may not actually pay in the event of a crash because i am legaly not allowed to drive this car.

Is anyone here an insured v8 p plater whos had a stack? if so did the insurance company pay up?

I spoke to RACV and JUST CAR INSURANCE, the guys at just car told me they could insure me, and they said they would "most likely" pay up in the event of a crash.

What do you guys think?

Thanks.

"Most likely" doesn't equal "for sure" and it would be a nasty wake up call if they deny your claim.
If it's on the banned list then why push your luck? There are plenty of other cars to get just to bash around in till your off your P's anyway.

even if they do insure you it will be in excess of $3500 per year with just car, and if they might cover you, i wouldnt be bothering my self.

im on my green p's and i have a ebxr8 registered and insured (3rd party fire and theft) with just cars and they don't have a problem with it. at least not that i am aware of. NRMA and AMI wouldnt even look at me but it was perfectly ok with just cars even though they are a sub-company of AMI.

Yes you can get insurance but it will be expensive.

The XR8 is over 1600kg isn't it? In which case you can have 188Kw EL XR8 is 185.

Gday,

I own a BA Xr8 Ute, and still on my P's (opens in August :P :P), the only way i could insure the car, was to have it in dads name and have me as a Registed Driver until im 21, i dont think QLD has those *rules* u have mentioned, i have been pulled several times for RBT, and they have looked at my licence then looked at me n said..have a nice night. but nothing about a restriction for driving a performance car.... by the way im Insured with RACQ.....food for thought.

cheers

Shannon’s and just Cars are owned by AAMI.

I have a Modified Beach Buggy Insured with Shannon’s, but after what AAMI did to me when a WB one Toner hit my XE head on, they can get f**k.

They said they couldn't represent me because I didn't tell them that my 14x7 inch wheels were chromed.

I was only 20 at the time but the accident wasn't even my fault. "WANKERS"
