Hey guys,
my car has been leaking coolant the past couple weeks. It doesnt leak all the time but when it does it leaks ot about half of whats in the resovior.
It only seems to happen after i drive the car and when its stationary.
First time happened when i got back from shopping and the second was wheni was warming up the car at home.

My missus drove the car today and said that the red fan light lit up on the dash.
Its an AU3 XR8.
Any ideas what this cold be?
leaking radiator?

can you see where it is leaking from?

if the radiator cap is kaput it might be losing from the overflow pipe.

There's another thread on this in here from about a week or 2 ago...

Check all hoses. Have a feel around when it's cold and see if there's any moisture.

Check gasket between timing cover and water pump.

Generally, have a look for any signs of water trickling down the motor and follow it up

check heater tap, water pump drain holes----the seals on the way out, will leak.pin holes in hoses and radiator, look hard as under pressure the leak may be very small.

i havent had a proper look at it yet but from looking under the front of the bar the coolant is actually leaking out from both left and right side of the radiator.

sounds like what happend to mine. these radiators are prone to splitting the join in the end tanks. its the passenger side that goes first and the coolant puddles under the radiator and drips out both sides.

yeah at first i could only see coolant drip out from the passenger side then the second time around it was dripping from both sides but mainly the passenger side like you said.

So what does that mean? New radiator?

yep but dont stress they not that pricey. i got a good quality adrad radiator with 1 piece end tanks for under $200 and its easy as to replace.

yeah i was thinking of replacing it myself with a new one.

Would anyone happen to know if the AU3 XR8 radiator is the same size as the standard falcons?

i think one of the guys has already asked this but it was for an EB but i was wondering if the radiator sizes are the same throughout the AU3 range?
would a standard falcon radiator be the same size as the xr8?

Cheers guys

ok.
ive had a proper look for the leak today and it isnt coming from any of the hoses that connect to the radiator.
I put some coolant into the resevoir and started the car up and coolant started leaking from the bottom corners of the radiator and im assuming that there is a crack in it so im just going to replace it with a new one.
never done it before but it looks easy enough.

Is there anything I need to be careful with or look out for?

You could get your end tanks replaced. My XH V8 had leaking end tanks. Local radiator shop replaced both for $200 incl. all labour and coolant.

That way you don't have to stuff around replacing etc. and it works out about the same as a new one.

just make sure you bleed all the air out of the system when ya refill it.

I ended up picking up a new radiator for $175.
The bottom right of the old radiator was stained with coolant so thats where the leak must be coming from.
Changed them over this morning and all is good now.
Thanks for the help guys.
