You can't do a MAFless tune on Fords thankfully.

What he meant was that you can't do a mafless tune on the factory EB-AU V8 ecu.

The MAF on Fords is the primary sensor for load and fuel calculation. It cannot be just turned off. If someone has done it they have fudged the calibration and it will make for such a dodgy state of tune it's not funny.
The reason it can be turned off on BoatAnchor s**t is because they use a slow a***(on the earlier stuff) frequency MAF which needs so much filtering they had to keep a MAP sensor on there to get a decent cal. So the first thing the boatanchor sheep do is take it off all and sundry. Stupid because the later ones got faster and in fact give a better calibration than they do when they take it off.

Actually, you can. Cam on AFF has a TPS based tune in his 347 AU done by ChipTorque

How is it a fudged tune?

What are the drawbacks of fudging the tune? I thought if it was tuned then it was tuned.

Can the fuel delivery not keep up with what is happening without the maf or something?

The drawbacks are; there is no way to sense load. If there's no load sensing the EEC cannot know what fuel or spark is needed for a given load. Effectively resulting in 3D maps being reverted to a single curve rather like, in the case of spark, an old mechanical advance distributor.

Well this thing here is running a 90mm Lightning MAF and even with a half assed tune it's running pretty well.
It's a 351 with a Vortech T-trim and big a*** front mount intercooler. Mustang A9P EECIV,42's and Moates 1/4 horse.

I always wondered how this was achieved (by ChipTorque). I've never looked into trying as it's not rocket science to tune MAFs and when done right they produce great results. If you're having issues with a MAF setup, you're doing it wrong!

There is actually a TPS based map within all EECIV and EECV that the ECU will revert to when the MAF is removed - only a matter of tuning that map.

Not exactly a carby - this type of tuning is used on V8 supercars, only the model that the EEC uses is much much better than a Motec.
