I'm having a b**ch of a time with my car at the moment!

Yesterday morning driving to work, I was in 4th, overtaking a truck and at about 3000 rpm the sound of the car changed. The best way to describe it is the Jetson's spaceship with a v8! When I take off from the start, it doesn't want to go anywhere. It seems to have lost all bottom end power. Up top in higher revs it doesn't seem like it is suffering so much, but still sounds like s**t. I guess it sounds like the exhaust is f**k but not as loud and there's the power loss.

Has anyone heard a motor as I've described and if so, what was the cause? I'm hoping there's a hose or vacuum line or something that's popped off and that's it. I won't be driving it anymore til the work gets done in a week and a half if I don't get it sorted.

Have a look under the upper inlet manifold and check that the hose hasn't been accidently pulled out or broken off. The vacuum hose can get hot and does release a bit of air.

to me it sounds like a spark problem, a V8 or even a 6 cylinder will sound a little like the Jetson's car if its missing on one or two cylinders.

Good luck with it.

Have you tried changing tunes on the TwEECer?

As schnoods said, check all vacuum hoses etc, also check PCV valve in rear of lower manifold, right down the back.

Remove MAF sensor from housing and check hotwires.

Rear of lower manifold sounds promising as when facing the engine, there is a sound that seems to be coming from the back right in behind the motor. Just need time to have a look at it.

Will also check vacuum hose and maf...

Cheers guys

Sounds like the old PCV valve then mate, check grommet in lower manifold where the valve slips into, could be cracked and brittle causing valve to come loose, also check that the mesh is still inside the gromet, if missing can cause excessive oil consumption i believe.

Time's a big issue, which sucks!

I'll try and get a look at it and let you know if I find anything.

sparks my bet. but then again, if its tweeting like you say, valving? maybe a valve staying open a tad long and leaking to the exhaust?

This is probably way off. I drive holden combo vans at work  . One of them had something wrong with the gearbox and sounded exactly like the jetsons car. I asked the boss what the problem was and all I got was "gearbox".

Fixed! Terry at BPT jiggled some s**t, including leads which I'd done a couple of times myself, and it's back to normal.

I'm happy now!

Excuse my ignorance but what does a Jetson's car sound like anyway?
