Hi All,

First of all let me say that I do enjoy reading information on this site. It is very handy to know that other people have problems (not just me :) ) and they have been able to fix and sort them out. This gives me some "Hope".

I have Ford Fairlane V8 5.0 Series 2 car causing some problems. My major problem is that it is running rough on petrol - intermittently! The car has been fitted with a PRINS Autogas System that uses VAPOR to use as fuel. The car runs fine on LPG and runs perfect on petrol - when it works and runs poorly most of the other time. It sounds like as if only 7 out of 8 cylinders are firing yet on LPG it runs perfect. I have had the car serviced and have had these parts replaced/fixed.

1) Vapor Injectors taken apart, dry joints re soldered and then sonically cleaned
2) New Ignition Leads fitted - Standard ProEagle fo V8's
3) Distributor inspected with no faults founds
4) LPG tuned via Prins Autogas Software
5) Fuel Pump inspected - all in good working order
6) Car computer (Code or Part # = 6DGC) from a NF V8 installed - to check if car computer was causing problems. Made KM's disappear on the Odometer but issue still remains.
7) Air Filter inspected - with no issues, still clean enough to do the job.

My car still runs intermittently on petrol after all the above work and money used. I am feeling a little bit upset and pretty pi***d off. I am wondering if anyone out on this forum can help me as I am desperately trying to solve this problem from the place we know as Hell on Earth! I am also trying to source a high end series BEM for NL V8 Fairlane so I can fix the electrical connection to push in button aerial. Aerial is new and the wiring loom as been tested with a multimeter report electrical connectivity. There is some corrosion on my board so hopefully another one will rectify the problem.

Anyone who can help me, please do so. I am almost at the point of pulling my hair out.

Cheers,
Diaz

fuel filter clean? get a new one put in and see if that fixes your problem

decribe the intermediate problem bit more, does it do it under load ie acceleration or idle?

Hi EFNA,

I have replaced the oil filter near the sump. I should have also listed that down as well. Not sure what you mean by the fuel filter - please elaborate :)

The problem happens at all times. When the car is at idle it feels very rough - almost like it wants to conck out but it when it is "on" for a few short seconds it runs better but still rough. Also, when the car petrol is working the car runs perfect say at 100ks an hour. when the problem strikes it causes the car run poorly. When the issue is occuring i can leave my foot off of the accelerator and there is not much rough running. When I put my foot on, the car shudders but still drives. When i flip the switch to gas, the issue disappears.

I don't use my car for any towing or any stress other than cruising to a 110kms (legally in SA :P).

there is a filter on the rear passenger side near the fuel tank, along the chassis rail

from memory sort of looks like this

this will help you swap it out yourself, very simple

hope this helps

If it's petrol only then I'd replace the fuel pump $100 as a good measure and something that I replace every 100,000kms.

When I bought my Lane it had the same issue. Car was on gas before I bought it and petrol wasnt used enough. After changing fuel pumps, plugs, leads and a heap of other stuff all that was left was the MAF. A bit of cleaner and a lot of carbon and s**t later the MAF was clean and the car run a treat.

Thanks everyone who has posted. Thanks for giving me some answers that wil hopefully solve some problems.

I'll have a look at the Fuel Pump again to check the status and see if it was working. I'll also have a look at the fuel filter. Is there anything that I should about it other than it needs to be clean :P

And what is the MAF stand for? Is that the air filter above the left headlight (in engine bay) ?

Cheers to everyone who has posted and given me some ideas!

The MAF is the Mass Air Flow sensor. It is the section that's bolted to the back of that air box that you were speaking about. It has a plug on it that is plugged to the electrics of the MAF. You need to unbolt the electrics and GENTLY pull them out. Do this once you've already got yourself a can of contact cleaner and some cotton buds. Once it's out, spray the contact cleaner on the electrics then, very gently, give them a wipe with a cotton bud. Make sure you don't put too much pressure on the filaments, as they are very fragile. If you break one, you'll be up the proverbial creek...

Thanks to everyone who has posted a reply back to my question. You guys certainly are giving me a lot more help than any of the FORD dealerships that I have been to thats for sure!

I'll have a look at that MAF, FILTER and maybe even get a new fuel pump. The guys at FORD say they checked the fuel pump and said it was ok but they did not mention anything about the fuel filter or the MAF sensor.

Any idea where Adel i can source a filter for a good price?

Cheers,
Diaz

Might be lazy o2 sensors too. I don't know much about LPG, but to my understanding the LPG system doesn't use the o2's?
