Hi can any body talk me through how to fix, lets say EXCESSIVE oil in throttle body.
Was pulling out spark plugs, and noticed as I removed air intake a reasonable amount of oil where it a-joins to throttle body.. Also has quite significant amount of oil that has dripped all over throttle down to well just all the way down.. I had a funny feeling it was running rich but this is ridiculous...
95 NF Fairlane 5ltr
Thanks

no, never use those stupid additives. If you need to use one, there is something wrong with your car

Spray some throttle body/carb cleaner in to clean it. But i'd say its from blowby getting past the rings and into the crankcase, with the crankcase vent in the oil filler carrying it back up to the tb. Does it use much oil?

its not a stupid additive by the way,it is a upper engine cleaner, and its the only other product apart from the genuine subaru upper cleaner that can be used that wont destroy the subaru sensitive map sensor mounted on the manifold, try to do things in steps dont rush in is what im getting at.

there are 2 things that usually cause excessive oil in throttle body, either the pcv screen is blocked not allowing crank case to breath or there is excessive blowby.

yer blowby is a pain, but if you do the upper clean then do a cylinder balance test followed by a compression test, that will give a good idea of what is happening, anyway let us know what you find,if you need parts maybe the members can sell/help you out a little bit.

Firstly thanks to all for your input.
I personally will only use additives that are for Fuel injection cleaning as I do not like messing with injectors as I am very heavy handed.
Grabbed some throttle body cleaner and gave it a good clean out, so waiting to see results.. Am hoping that it may just be a build up of crud as the previous owner used it as a burn out car and didn't take much care...
Today replaced spark plugs, leads, and oil flushed radiator all the minor servicing.. Oops forgot the trany..
And yes she was chewing a lot of oil, and is still running quite rich.
Although just gave her a run up a murderous hill that she struggled with yesterday, let me say she loved the hill today purred like a giant kitten...
I will put picks up when I figure out how too..
