hey guys iv got a 220kw AU XR8, when i bought it, i could give it a bit of a boot every now and then and i would still get about 400km out of the tank, now im driving like a grandma and im getting 280 to a tank and i cant figure out why, the mechanic has told me all my sensors are fine, so the only thing i can think of is my intake, iv got a lukey panel filter and iv cut the front out of my air box, my mechanic put a belt dressing on the belt and its flicked it all through the engine bay and the filter looks like it might have some on it, if the air flow was blocked a bit would this cause more fuel consumtion, or the other theory was, that the increase of air volume from the hole in the air box is causeing the computer to pump more fuel to keep the mixture the same... any theories would be very helpful... cheers

thats what i thort but my mech has told me all sensors are fine... reckon they might be full of it tho...

does it smell like its runnin rich after its warmed up?

it smells a bit rich at norm opperating temp but when it first starts is smells like its just flowing petrol out the exhaust pipe... its got a rough idel to but i dont know if thats a another symtom or not... holy s**t i cant spell tonight....

heavy fuel use and rough idle are classic symptoms of oxy sensor.
my cousins commydore was running rich and running rough to the point of going into limp home mode. was oxy sensor.

hahah its not the only issue with the car but its the main one pissing me off at the moment, i love it but its not worth the 7k on top of what i paid for it... but ya get that with 2nd hand cars...

Sounds like it's running rich. Check & clean the MAF if you have not already done so.

Rough idle and spitting fuel out the exhaust was the same symptoms I had when my oxy sensors were gone.
Disconnect the oxygen sensors and give it a drive. This will force it into "safe mode". It will still run rich, but not as much so as it is at the moment and should also rectify your rough idle. If this all happens, it's definetely your oxy's.

Dont use aftermarket oxy sensor. I bought a brand new one thinking it would be fine and about 6 months later it developed idle issues and lost heaps of power. Not thinking it would be the oxy i replaced heaps, t-map, TPS, ISC, Aftermarket cam with another smaller one, then stock one and it still had issues. I then used a second hand genuine one and bam back to perfect.

might go to my ford dealer and see how much they are, they be expensive but i can get em trade so why not...
