Hi guys, does anyone have laying around (or know where I can get one in SA) a top pulley (fan/ waterpump) for a cleveland with no power steer, no air cond? From memory overall height of the pulley is around 1.85" - when I did my engine swap the car my 351 came out of was power steer, which I don't have in my car, so my quick and dirty solution was just to keep the pump and plumb a very short outlet to inlet hose, just so the fan belts would work...I'm aware I'm wasting power running this pump, as well as of course extra weight, and I just want to eliminate the ps completely...cheers!

Not really sure what the problem is here, cant you just use the water pump pulley you have, and just leave the power steer belt off, or run a shorter belt if it is just for the alt and water pump?
Redline make aftermarket chrome pulleys if that helps, or try a wreckers for a pulley that should fit. 8-)

Yeh, the problem is that these used two belts - one goes from lower pulley to alternator, the other goes lower, upper (fan) and power steer pump. If you eliminate the power steer belt you also eliminate drive to water pump and fan...

total height of the pulley (if you lay it flat )is 1.85" - current one is approx 1 " more, so 2.85"

Oh, and can't just run a shorter belt (without pulley change) - 2 belts - one does alt and lower pulley, the other does lower, waterpump/fan and power steer..

So the problem is that the alt doesnt line up with the water pump and crank pulley? Can you move the alt back or forward a bit to line it up with the water pump pulley? The ditch everything else, and reun with one belt.
Or, go to a wrecker and find a povo ford with a clevo in it, and pinch the water pump pulley and the alt bracket.

nah, that won't work because when you think about it both top and bottom pulleys are (obviously) fixed - the power steering pump allows the adjustment needed to be able to tension the belt. On the other belt the alternator provides adjustment for tensioning the belt. What the shorter (i.e. not as deep) pulley I'm after does is line the water pump pulley up with the same groove the alternator is currently using, so one (longer belt) goes alternator, lower pulley AND upper (fan) pulley...

Oh, and sooty72, I had the same thought - but the alternator will end up hitting the driver's side head (or very close ) - I'd also have to re-make the spacers etc and get different length bolts - if I can get the proper pulley its all bolt - up and lots less hassle.. the other thought I had was moving the alt over to where the p steer pump is now, but again need to re-make brackets, stretch wires...

I have the parts you need, on a clevo in out of an XY, but I am too far away. Hopefully XR can help you out. :D

Thanks both of you, particularly xrfairmont67, if you could check I'll fix you up for it - you're virtually round the corner from me...what do you reckon you'd want for the pulley?

To be quite honest haven't had a chance to check - by size though are you referring to the diameter of it or the depth of it, i.e. distance from the mounting surface to the groove?

If you are talking about diameter, I'm not sure it would matter too much would it? It would only change slightly the speed of the waterpump relative to the crank speed...post back if you can and I'll check it tonight..

outside diameter, some waterpump pulleys are not compatible with the crank pulleys due to diameter
is your waterpump pulley same size as where it runs on the crank pulley or smaller.
i have both pulleys, 1 is on my F100 but i can swap it over if u need that one

Oh, I get you - from memory the water pump pulley is the same size as the crank pulley (but I'll doublecheck tonight). How much are you after for the pulley?
