Hi all,
Just want to know wat cc standard ED 5ltr pistons are, The cc of standard AUII GT40p heads and wat compression ratio a standard ed 5ltr ecu can run? bit of a novice with the injected windsors and im putting together a windsor for my maverick 4x4 and chasing torque. Basically the parts ive got is a standard ED 5ltr bottom with full top end of a AUII pursuit (heads, manifold, roller rockers, TB etc.). Also will the ed computer run the 24pnd injectors and rail?
Any help will be great.

Cheers Chris

From memory the stock pistons have about 3cc of valve reliefs in them? Maybe someone can confirm this?
I believe 40P's have 58cc chambers? Don't know if they were much different being from a Pursuit engine but I'd say they would be a little if it has bigger valves.
The EEC doesn't know or care what the compression ratio is.
The EEC will run just about any high impedance injectors you can get.

Right that actually gets me thinking.. If the valves are bigger in the 40p heads are they going to foul on the ed piston valve reliefs?

I discussed the GT40P heads at length with an engineer from Yella Terra, and have rebuilt a couple over the last 3 years. I did a write-up on the differences between a stock GT40P head and the AU3 XR8 GT40P heads about 2 years ago when I rebuilt one. AU3 XR8's GT40P heads were plained 30 thou and fitted with Ferrea 5059 intake and 5028 exhaust valves. The valves were unshrouded (nicely) and the chambers were polished. A stock GT40P is nominally 60cc, around 58cc when cut 30 thou with the above mods.

The heads fitted to the strokers (which persuit utes were in NZ) were not plained to keep the compression sensible. All the other mods were done the same as above. So figure around 62cc.

To figure out what you've got, clean an intake valve head. If it's bright & shiny its stainless, if it's dark then it's a stock GT40P.

ED's were supposed to have had the flat top hyper pistons with 4 valve reliefs. 3 cc's is about right for the cutouts, not sure about the deck clearance, maybe around 20 thou = 4cc's. But some members of the forum have found the factory trw forged pistons in their engines up to & including EF. These were slightly different with a small dish. But I've never compared them for compression height as it may compensate??

There should be no p/v interference issues with street cams under 500 thou lift - the increase in valve size is small, but it always pay to check

Geez the 5.0 Windsor into a Maverick is starting to catch on now.
Might be time to sell mine and build something else to be a bit different again...................

Based on that fact my Mum is the best around!

If you want real torque, put a 351 in it......

Especially if you add a 4" stroke crank to the mix!
