Apologies in advance for the boring question..

But I'm about to fill up my freshly rebuild 5.0w, it's a 86 EFi roller cam unit.
It's got enough goodies for 350hp or so.

Want to know what oil I should put in it obviously some poor grade mineral oil or running in oil to start. But after that? I've heard good things about Castrol Magnetec?

Also, more importantly at this stage is what I should put in my C4 auto?

I'm sorry, I don't have a manual to find out. :(

Castrol Magnatec is my choice of oil, but that's an unmolested i6 (unmolested for now :P)

I use Shell Helix Ultra....... noticed a big improvement over other oils i was using before that.

But it all depends on which viscosity oil your V8 is supposed to use..

Thats the problem.. I have no idea.. I've never had a V8 before.

I've heard it's good to pick the oil it will use and continue to use it.
It's a 1986 EFi 302 windsor out of a mustang.

and what about the C4's? what sort of ATF do you boys put in?

Yep, you need to first bed the rings in with normal mineral oil. Any will do such as Shell Super 15w-30w etc.

After at least 500klm drain it and refill with the same and a new filter. Personally, I would put a few thousand klm's on it and then consider swapping to full synthetic, such as Castrol Edge :D

Only the price as far as I can see I've been using it in all my cars for years and seem to get a much better milage and long engine life :D :D

Royal purple?? never heard of the stuff..

I was thinking either 10/50 Penzoil or Penrite HPR15 or Castrol Magnetic?

Apparently once it has run in, using fully syth from the start is a good idea

I like Fuchs, I think its a semi-synth, 15w40.
I run that in the 5L.

Yeah, as ozrunner already said. bed the rings for the first 2000Kms before changing it to full synth. I use any 10w40 synthetic oil as long as its full! lol

When running in a new engine ( Since it has been rebuilt, I presume you mean rebored/ new pistons ETC)

1, Penrite running in oil ( non friction modified) for 500 Kms
Drain and new filter

2, Shell helix 20w40 for next 10,000 Kms.

3, A good synthetic oil Amsoil, Royal Purple.

If you use plain oil for first 500 Kms or synthetic, too early you risk glazing the bores, then another rehone, rebuild.
