ok so DL LTD V8....whenever i go to accelerate soft or hard i get this noise....kina like pfffft maybe a shhhhhhht and it sounds like its coming from the drivers side under the car some where at the back of the engine

it can happen when it drops a gear or even under gentle peddle

Kinda sounds like the vac secondaries on a holley opening up....but im pretty sure it isnt that...of course.

Im pretty sure its coming from the engine or the tranny not diff

Any ideas?

Could be a rattling exhaust heat shield?

nah its more like a squirt of air or maybe suction....nothing like a rattle. Its not overly loud either but pretty damn prominent if you are beside a nature strip or a wall.

Yeah ok but sometimes those noises can sound like something they're not. Maybe a leaky vac line or brake booster or PCV line?

I know the sound he's talking about.. I get it from all my Fords with the 4sp BTR (EB, EF and AU have done it). Maybe when it downshifts from 3rd to 2nd under certain load. Only seems to happen between 1 pair of gears and I've never heard it on any manual equipped cars :)

Sound right?

yeah pretty much although im kinda sure it can happen without a downshift (only kinda) will test that theory...but what the hell is it??....there is no vacuum kick down so it cant be that

I had a noise like that in my old ED on take off and braking, turned out to be part of the muffler had broken away and was sliding back and forth inside the muffler!

I was trying to shake the exhaust to find a knock and heard it sliding around in the muffler, drove me insane for a few months before that though.
