Can anyone please help me with my ELXR8, i changed the spark plugs on the weekend, putting in original motorcraft ones, didn't replace leads but noticed a few were worn.
I did a bad thing however in pulling more than one off at a time and now have a couple mixed up, car runs fine when accelarting but has a rough idle in nuetral and when in gear, acceleration is fine.
Will leads on the wrong spark plug do this or does something need cleaning/replacing you think?
If I did buy a set of new leads, what are the best to buy and cost? and how will I know which one goes where? Instructions with purchase?

Thanks.

I think you need to get yourself an owners manual. If the problem only appeared after played around with it, pretty safe bet you did something wrong.

As for new leads, you may as well change them. I haven't had to purchase leads for a while and wouldn't know a good brand from a bad one now. Just go to your nearest auto store and ask for a good quality set of leads - I'm sure they'll help you out.

Spark plug order is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8, having them out of place can give the symptoms you described but so would a broken lead or even wrongly gaped plugs. As for leads, Eagle 9mm sets are easily available and are decent from my experience.

Drivers side goes from 1-4 front to back and then passenger side is 5-8 again front to back, and the dizzy goes anticlockwise (cyl 1 should be marked on the cap)

Yep 1 towards the headlights (front of engine), and yeah 9mm leads are generally the replacement items, Eagle or Bosch seem to be the easiest to find.

No, going anticlockwise on the dizzy, the leads should go 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8

If you have your leads a*** about then you will notice a drastically reduced performance in EVERY respect from your engine.

At best it is running on 6 cylinders...............

I would suggest that your leads are probably on right, but one is tracking (ie cracked or damaged lead). This would cause a noticeably poorer idle but would be less noticeable under load! It may even go away under load as the engine twists (torque) slightly it may cause the lead to move reducing the problem. I've seen it before...................

thanks all, yes all leads are on in rights spots, but at least one is cracked, new leads for me!
performance is still very good, like you say it's not always bad, just idles and in gear but not moving.
