can anyone assure me of what weight harmonic balancer and what weight flywheel is standard on the 5.6 litre. im putting this engine in my el xr8 using the el accessories so on advice i got a powerbond PB1084-ST balancer (34oz counterbalance) and yella terra 50oz lightened flywheel. I see the american H.O. engine uses these weights. I'm confused, any help much appreciated

I can't tell you for sure that the 5.6 engines are 28oz. Some have said they are and others have said they are 50oz like all the 5.0's. I believe the original balancer is actually made by powerbond so powerbond should know for sure.
Does this engine you have already have a stock flywheel and balancer on it? If so you can compare what you have with what you have bought. Whatever it turns out to be, both must match; 50oz fly with 50oz balancer or 28 with 28.
Here's a stock 5.0 Flexplate(50oz imbalance) vs a 28oz 5.8 Flexplate, you can see the substantial difference between imbalance weights.

btw our 5.0's are american 5.0's.

yes. i contacted herrod who told me that powerbond made the original tickford balancer. so i contacted powerbond who told me to use the 1084 to suit this engine with the el offset. it has 34oz stamped on it. i asked them who would make a flywheel to match? no-one they said. i dont have an original flywheel. i bought this engine as a new long motor. but im about 3 seconds away from pulling it down for balancing. its a shame cause its new, with balancing weights written by texta on the tops of the pistons still clearly visible. its now down to two seconds

Ask Papa Smurf to check Ford part numbers. Might shed some light on the matter for you.

Like all 342 engines they were individually balanced to suit the rotating assembly. Follow this link and you will see a Tickford 342 being built and balanced with the flywheel and balancer on the crankshaft. http://aufalcon.com.au/imagesDB/multimedia/126_1_L.mov

If you have the bob weight info, the balance job is over half done already.

It is possible to remove the crank without removing the rods, and if you get a friend to help, the crank can also be installed without removing the rods. Take note though. It takes care and patience
